Stranger Things star's first big movie after the show's end is already a hit

After Stranger Things came to an end after five seasons last December, all eyes were excitedly on the cast to see what they would do next. Well, after our tears dried and our grief passed, then we turned our attention to what the cast members would star in on the big and small screen. It's no shock to any fan that the cast has been experiencing nothing but continued success.

Pizza Movie starring Gaten Matarazzo on Hulu is a No. 1 hit

On April 3, Gaten Matarazzo's new film Pizza Movie premiered on Hulu, as well as Hulu on Disney+, and one week after its release, the movie remains in the No. 1 position on Hulu. As of April 10, Pizza Movie also ranks as the No. 6 movie in the United States on Disney+. It's no surprise that the comedy has connected with viewers, especially with such a talented actor in the leading role.

Matarazzo stars in Pizza Movie as a college student named Jack, who along with his roommate Montgomery (Sean Giambrone), tries a hallucinatory drug called M.I.N.T.S. Once on the drug and experiencing the wild hallucinations it brings, Jack and Montgomery embark on a mission for pizza, which acts as an antidote to the drug's effects. Naturally, they find themselves having one of the wildest nights of their lives full of unexpected twists and personalities.

In addition to Gaten Matarazzo and Sean Giambrone in the leading roles, Pizza Movie also stars a number of familiar faces, including Lulu Wilson, Jack Martin, Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Marcus Scribner, Caleb Hearon, Sarah Sherman, Justin Cooley, Bobby Moynihan, and Daniel Radcliffe.

Pizza Movie comes from co-writers and directors Brian McElhaney and Nick Kocher, who are known for their sketch comedy group BriTANicK. It's the pairs first film as directors, but they have also written for titles such as The Goodwin Games, Saturday Night Live, and Over Your Dead Body.

In addition to being popular on both Hulu and Disney+, the Hulu original movie has earned mostly positive reviews from critics, currently holding a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It's been a while since there has been what's been dubbed as a "stoner comedy," a subgenre of comedy movies that were popular in the 2000s and even in the early 2010s. Pizza Movie is a hit for a new generation.
