It's safe to say that every single Stranger Things fan around the world is ready for the release of the fifth season this fall. The final season finally makes its premiere on Nov. 26 after over three years of waiting since season 4's drop in summer 2022. Our patience will surely be rewarded with plenty of excitement and surprises in the final episodes, but fans are already showing the series some love.
Weeks ahead of the Stranger Things season 5 premiere on Netflix, the first season of the series returned to the Global Top 10 English TV Shows ranking for the week of Oct. 27 through Nov. 2. The first season returned to the top 10 at No. 10 with 1.8 million views and 12.3 million hours viewed. The following week, Stranger Things season 1 rose to No. 8 with 2.8M views and 19.3M hours.
There's no doubt that the closer we get to the season 5 premiere, more past seasons will mark their returns to the global top 10 ranking as fans continue to rewatch the series in anticipation of new episodes. It's also worth noting that Stranger Things made a comeback to the global top 10 timed to Halloween, but the spike the week after definitely suggests rewatches are in full swing.
That's also evident by the fact that Stranger Things has returned to the top 10 most-watched shows on Netflix ranking in the United States. The show has been back on the daily top 10 since early November, currently placed at No. 7 on Nov. 11 ahead of the latest seasons of fellow hit Netflix original series The Witcher and Selling Sunset. No doubt, the series will stay put and continue to rise.
Obviously, it's not uncommon for popular Netflix shows to return to the top 10 ranking before new seasons are released. But it's rare for shows to pick up steam this far removed from a season premiere. It's very soon for Stranger Things to be back in the United States' daily top 10, but it's even sooner than we expected to see it back in the global top 10.
Needless to say, everyone expects Stranger Things season 5 to make a monumental debut with viewership numbers that could overtake season 4's 140.7 million views and 1.8 billion hours viewed as well as Wednesday season 2 (252.1 million views/1.7 billion hours viewed) and Adolescence (142.6 million views/546.5 million hours viewed), the two shows that have managed to best season 4's views.
If Stranger Things fans are already showing up weeks before the final season premieres with its first volume of episodes, then there's no doubt that between all three drops this holiday season, the series could very well make history and become the most-watched English-language Netflix show of all time. Maybe season 5 could even challenge Squid Game's untouchable all-time views.
Stranger Things season 5 premieres Nov. 26, Dec. 25, and Dec. 31 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Netflix.
