The NFL on Christmas Day on Netflix will be interesting to watch as the Kansas City Chiefs will play the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Baltimore Ravens will take on the Houston Texans. Every team involved is expected to make the playoffs and football fans could be looking at playoff previews.
In the Netflix sports special of the Mike Tyson-Jake Paul fight, the streaming giant averaged 108 million viewers. The viewership for the NFL may have an impact with the presence of start-studded NFL players including Patrick Mahomes, Steelers’ defensive lineman TJ Watt, Ravens’ QB Lamar Jackson, and Texans’ QB CJ Stroud.
The NFL playoffs are currently around the corner for likely all of these teams, and many NFL fans will flock to Netflix to watch the games as both are must-see events.
What Netflix viewers should expect from the NFL games being streamed on Christmas Day
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Kansas City Chiefs
Both the Chiefs (14-1) and the Steelers (10-5) are currently in first place in their respective divisions of the AFC West and the AFC North. Kansas City currently holds the number-one seed in the AFC Conference while Pittsburgh holds the number three seed. The Steelers did lose to the Ravens on Saturday, but Pittsburgh remains atop the division due to a better conference record than Baltimore.
Quarterback Mahomes is elite, and his offensive unit includes tight end Travis Kelce, running back Isaiah Pacheco, and wide receiver Xavier Worthy. Kansas City has surprisingly struggled to score a lot of points this year (it has scored 21 points or fewer in six games), but the talent is there to be successful.
Kansas City is making a push to be the number-one seed with a playoff bye. The Buffalo Bills are currently the number-two seed, and they beat the Chiefs this year in Buffalo.
QB Russell Wilson has been making the case to be the Steelers' long-term quarterback since he took over for QB Justin Fields. He has been highly efficient as the starter but will face a major test in facing the Chiefs’ defense featuring defensive tackle Chris Jones, linebacker George Karlaftis, and defensive back Trent McDuffie.
The Steelers have more at stake with playoff seeding still in the balance. Nothing is guaranteed for a division win in the AFC North.
Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans
The Texans (9-6) are fighting to stay atop the AFC South to retain their title as division champions. The Ravens are in a position to get into the playoff with the number-five seed. They also still have a chance to win the division.
Quarterback Lamar Jackson has led the way for the Ravens with running back Derrick Henry and tight end Mark Andrews providing consistency both on the ground and in the air. The Ravens' offense will be facing a Texans defense led by Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter. Texans’ linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair is currently serving a three-game suspension for the hit on Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
CJ Stroud has led the Houston Texans on offense, including running back Joe Mixon, and wide receiver Nico Collins. They go against a Raven defense led by defensive back Marlon Humphrey and linebacker Kyle Van Noy.
With the Ravens as their opponent on Christmas, the Texans could face a tough test as they look to secure their playoff spot and win the AFC South division. Houston’s defense will have to face the running attack of Jackson and Henry combined.
Other reasons to watch the games on Netflix?
Netflix NFL streaming is at the right time with the playoffs around the corner with four teams battling for a higher seed. Teams with playoff records and high-quality talent will drive more viewership including high stakes games.
For the Chiefs-Steelers game, Taylor Swift’s presence will be a major driver for viewership for Netflix. Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl champion along with Kelce, has maintained viewership for the NFL and other networks, including CBS, NBC, ESPN, and Fox, including some of the best commentators in the broadcast business.
