Squid Game puts up shocking number in Netflix's second-half of 2024 results

You know Netflix is popular, and you know several different series, especially original series, have an immense global appeal. In the second half of 2024 alone, 20 series had at least 25 million views each. 77 movies had at least 25 million views, based on the results Netflix released this week.

But one series stands out above all others. That would be Squid Game Season 2. It led all series in views (and also amassed 619.9 million viewing hours). The magic is that the second season was not released until December 26, which means, of course, that Squid Game got all those views in six days. Clearly, people were ready for the release.

The show coming in second might be a bit more surprising. The first season of The Perfect Couple, starring Nicole Kidman, finished in second place. Sure, we knew it was popular, but that popular? Now we know.

What were the most-viewed movies and series on Netflix in the second half of 2024?

Two thrillers led the way with movies. Carry-On likely exceeded expectations but was worth it. Maybe it drags slightly in the middle, but the payoff is great. The Union, with Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry, is more fluffy with a sly sense of humor, but it's still entertaining. Crime drama Rebel Ridge finished third. All of the top three films finished with more than 100 million views.
