The Sandman fans got the bad news that one of their favorite shows would not be renewed after a second season long ago. The series was popular, so that wasn't the issue. The problem might stem from the artistic differences between Netflix and show creator Neil Gaiman.

The accusations of assault and abuse against him, which he has denied, might have also come into play, but we likely will never know. What we do know is that the second season of The Sandman will be its last.

The last season will be split into two parts, which has become a common practice at Netflix that is being followed by Wednesday, Squid Game, and Stranger Things, and the first part will arrive on July 3. The second part will drop on July 24. The good news is that there will be a bonus episode that will arrive on July 31.

Netflix gives The Sandman fans a glimmer of happiness

Netflix also announced the names of the episodes for the final season. Those will be Season of Mists, The Ruler of Hell, More Devils Than Vast Hell Can Hold, Brief Lives, The Sons of Orpheus, Family Blood, Time and Night, Fuel for the Fire, The Kindly Ones, Long Live the King, A Tale of Graceful Ends, and Death: The High Cost of Living.

The titles came along with some teaser first-look photos, too.

The second season will also introduce a number of characters. They almost sound like a Marvel character lineup as they consist of Orpheus (Ruairi O'Connor), Loki (Freddie Fox), Odin (Clive Russell), and Thor (Laurence O'Fuarain).

They will join the returning characters of Dream (Tom Sturridge), Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), Despair (Donna Preston), and Delirium (Esmé Creed-Miles).

If you haven't seen the series, the plot follows the Sandman (also known as Dream), who, as you could guess, controls dreams. He gets captured, though, and when he returns, he has to try to fix all the timelines of the last century and all the chaos his absence has created.

The trailer is everything you might want if you are a fan of the show. There is enough cheese and great special effects, all done with a wispy smile, to make even those who haven't watched interested. It is certainly worth one's time, and due to only two seasons, it won't take you long to watch by late July.
