It’s sadly true that Argyle has left Stranger Things (and here’s what happened in his final scene)

One of the biggest breakout characters in the fourth season of Stranger Things was Jonathan’s new California bestie Argyle. Played to perfection by actor Eduardo Franco, the character was introduced early in the fourth season as Jonathan’s new best friend and he quickly ended up playing a key role in the season. 

While Argyle was essentially a walking stereotype, fans quickly fell in love with the Surfer Boy Pizza delivery driver. Argyle played a pivotal role in the season, helping Eleven, Mike, Will, and Jonathan evade the military and using his Surfer Boy Pizza connections to help give them a place to create a DIY sensory deprivation tank for Eleven to use in order to reach Max and save her life. 

Sadly, despite his breakout status in season 4, Argyle will not be returning for the final season of the show. 

Eduardo Franco announced his departure from Stranger Things way before season 5’s premiere

Heading into the final season, there was a lot of speculation about who would be returning and what the season would hold. While most of the cast remained tight-lipped about the final season, Eduardo Franco revealed early in production that he had not been asked back for the final season. 

“It’s nice to hear that there’s some sort of concern, you know what I mean? But yeah, I never got a phone call, so yeah, I think that’s it,” Franco revealed in an interview with the Steve Varley Show when asked about the final season. 

While some speculated that perhaps Franco was just trying to throw fans off, Netflix has since seemingly confirmed his departure. There’s been no mention of Franco in any of the promotional materials for the final season, and no sight of Argyle at all in any of the trailers, posters, or images for the season. Sadly, Argyle has been written out of the show, and his final scene actually occurs in the season 4 finale – though we didn’t know at the time that it would be his final episode at the time. 

What happened to Argyle in Stranger Things? 

Sadly, Argyle’s final scene comes in the season 4 finale, as there is no cameo for the character in the first four episodes of Stranger Things season 5. There’s not even a mention of what happened to Argyle such as a throwaway line explaining that he went back to California before the Hawkins lockdown began. The character is essentially out of sight and out of mind. 

It seems safe to assume that after the events of the season 4 finale, Argyle returned home to California. However, this is an assumption fans have to make as there is no direct confirmation of this within the show. 

When we last saw Argyle, he returned with Mike, Will, Eleven, and Jonathan to Hawkins in the immediate fallout of the battle with Vecna. We see him roll up with the team to the Wheeler House, and we later see him drive out with Mike, Will, Eleven, Nancy, and Jonathan to Hopper’s cabin. He doesn’t get any final lines in these scenes, with his last appearance in the show coming in a scene which depicts him in the woods around Hopper’s cabin foraging for mushrooms. “​”He’s a little on the eccentric side,” Jonathan tells Nancy as they look on from the cabin. 

That’s the last we see of Argyle in season 4, and with his exit from the show, it’s also the last we see of the character in general.
