Prepare to slip on your boots and put your cowboy hat back on because we'll be heading back to Ransom Canyon before we know it! The second season of the hit Netflix modern Western romantic drama has been in production since September 2025, and thanks to a new update from the showrunner, we finally have a status update on how far along the cast and crew are in the filming process.

According to a new interview with Deadline, showrunner April Blair revealed that Ransom Canyon season 2 had passed the halfway point in production. That's very exciting! Since at the time of Blair's interview production was about halfway and filming is planned to wrap up in January 2026, that means filming should have significantly progressed by now.

Over the course of filming Ransom Canyon season 2, the cast has shared some behind the scenes pictures, but they have managed not to overshare and spoil any major storylines in the new episodes. When we last left the dueling ranches in the season 1 finale, Quinn (Minka Kelly) was off to New York City as her relationship with Staten (Josh Duhamel) cooled down in the midst of his family war.

Not to mention, the season finale revealed that Yancy (Jack Schumacher) was previously married and never mentioned that fact to Ellie (Marianly Tejada). While Yancy's mystery wife was only shown from behind in the season 1 finale, Blair has confirmed who will be playing her in season 2. New cast member Heidi Engerman stars as the mysterious Mrs. Grey in a recurring role.

Ransom Canyon season 2 filming and casting updates

Blair gave some insight to fans as to what we should expect from Yancy's storyline and his wife this season while chatting with Deadline: "She comes to town and causes a whole lot of trouble, a lot of fun trouble. It’s gonna be a challenge for me. There’s a lot of surprises for Yancy this season that are going to be super fun and a lot of stakes to his wife showing up."

Elaborating on questions surrounding Yancy's persona life, Blair mused that Yancy will have to wonder how to get rid of his wife, whether he actually wants to get rid of her, and what scabs from the past that her arrival in Ransom Canyon will reopen. There's a lot we still don't know about Yancy, even though we learned about his true identity as Cap's (James Brolin) grandson.

There will be a lot of diving back into personal history for multiple characters in Ransom Canyon season 2 thanks to the arrival of more new characters and family members. Patricia Clarkson will play Quinn's mother and Steve Howey will play Staten's half-brother, which brings more dimension to both characters, how they operate, and what they will do with their future.

"Quinn’s story isn’t just about, ‘Oh, she’s torn between two men.’ She’s torn between her home and this other place, this other life that she’s been living back in New York for the past six months," Blair said to Deadline about Quinn's season 2 journey. "We really wanted to dig deeper into why she was conflicted about that and understand that. In order to do that, we wanted to know who formed her, what her history was."

It's the same situation with Staten, whose half-brother will shade in some blurred edges about the Kirkland dynasty. "It’s a fun deepening of his character and the fraught relationship with his father in season 1, which trickles into this season," Blair hinted to Deadline about Staten's new adversary, who seemingly takes over that mantle from departing brother-in-law Davis (Eoin Macken).

No doubt, all of the casting additions and changes will add up to further building the foundation for a lasting series that can last for many, many more seasons. As mentioned above, Ransom Canyon season 2 should wrap up filming in January 2026, which should allow the series to return in summer 2026 or sometime in early fall.
