Say it ain't so.

Cobra Kai had no business being as good as it was ever. The first season was shockingly good, especially for those of us who loved the first few films of the series and expected nothing of that quality. Instead, the series was quite good. Even without the original source material, the show was fantastic.

The show is coming to a close, however. The final season (season 6) has been broken into three parts, but at least Netflix subscribers have gotten their money's worth. Instead of a three-episode arc, we have gotten 15 in total. That means storylines should be completed in full.

Over the seasons, we have seen a number of cameos from the original Karate Kid films. Elisabeth Shue as Ali Mills has shown up, so has Traci Toguchi who played Luna, and Rob Garrison as Tommy. But one actor we have not yet seen is Hilary Swank, who was the star of the last of the original films, The Next Karate Kid.

Ralph Macchio confirms Hilary Swank will not appear in final episodes of Cobra Kai

Unfortunately, Swank will not appear in the series. Ralph Macchio confirmed as much in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. The last five episodes of Cobra Kai dropped on February 13, and since there were so many cameos already, many fans were hoping Swank's character, Julie Pierce, would be one of the last ones.

Macchio did say there might be one or two more cameos to come, though he did not want to drop any names. That makes sense because viewers would be looking for that. Instead, we get a nice surprise.

The Next Karate Kid was Swank's first lead role in a film. She has since gone on to have a very good career, including winning Oscars for lead roles in Boys Don't Cry and Million Dollar Baby. Her Karate Kid film was widely panned, though, and seen as the worst of the original films. Possibly she doesn't want to be tied to that movie anymore due to critic and audience reaction.

Macchio told Rolling Stone, "She just didn’t want to do it for whatever the reason. It just didn’t make sense for whatever was going on in her life. I wasn’t deep into any of those conversations, I just knew they took a stab at it."

One might wonder if we will eventually get a new Karate Kid film that features Macchio that will only be available on Netflix. The series was a great success, so why not build on that? Plus, as the show proved, there are still an unlimited amount of storylines to mine with the franchise.
