Outer Banks season 4 introduced a love interest for Rafe Cameron. During the season, Rafe (Drew Starkey) falls for Sofia (Fiona Palomo), who is not a Kook, and he even proposes to her with a family ring.

It's clear they are madly in love with each other, but there are few things that happen that get in the way of their budding relationship. First, Rafe dismisses their relationship the first chance he gets because he is embarrassed about where Sofia is from. In turn, Sofia betrays Rafe when Hollis Robinson (Brianna Brown) offers her money to try to get Rafe to sign the real estate investment deal she offered him with Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane).

Well, we all know that that deal was basically just a front to steal from Rafe. He loses $400,000 in the process, and he breaks up with Sofia when he learns that she betrayed him for money.

In Outer Banks season 5, Rafe and Sofia are not together to start the season once Rafe and the gang return from Croatia. Still, it's obvious that there are real feelings. Sofia tries to apologize to Rafe multiple times, and Rafe won't take responsibility for any of his actions.

Thankfully, by the end of season 5, that all changes. There are spoilers ahead for Outer Banks season 5!

Do Rafe and Sofia get back together in Outer Banks season 5?

Yes, Rafe and Sofia do get back together in Outer Banks season 5.

In episode 6, "The Big Easy," Rafe is feeling the pressure to get out of his house and sign the papers to sell Tannyhill to Dale Zeasy (Jason Davis) and his group. Rafe texts Sofia to get her to come over and pick up all of her stuff that she left there.

When she arrives, she apologizes for hurting him. He isn't having it at first. As Sofia gathers her things in the yard, she breaks down and sobs about how bad she feels about hurting him.

Rafe starts to comfort her, and he tells her that it's okay and that he forgives her. Then, they spend the night together, and it's very clear from the jump that they are back together. Rafe forgives Sofia for accepting the payments behind his back and convincing him to go in on the deal back in season 4 with Groff and Hollis.

Rafe proposes to Sofia again

After getting back together, Rafe gives the ring to Sofia. They kiss, and they are fully back on engaged and ready to move forward. Rafe is even taking her business advice about the new deal that will allow him to finally get his hands on this Royal Merchant gold.

Unfortunately, their engagement hits a snag almost immediately after they get engaged.

Rose calls Rafe and reveals that Shoupe (Cullen Moss) has new evidence that he killed Sheriff Peterkin. They are coming to arrest him. After a back and forth with Sofia, she wants to help Rafe escape because she knows that he's changed.

The Pogues arrange for a flight to get Rafe out to Azerbaijan with them, and he invites Sofia to come along. Unfortunately, Sofia gets picked up by Shoupe and charged with aiding and abetting. With Sofia now in jail, Rafe can't leave. He must find a way to break her out, so he skips the flight and sticks around in the Outer Banks, waiting for his moment to save Sofia and make a break for it.

Rafe and Sofia escape and move to Brazil

Hurricane Cassandra hits the Outer Banks and forces an island-wide mandatory evacuation. In the chaos, Rafe breaks Sofia out of jail. They even save Shoupe's life when a tree lands on him as he's chasing them.

They spend the night in the lighthouse with John B (Chase Stokes), Sarah (Madelyn Cline), Kiara (Madison Bailey), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), and Heyward (E. Roger Mitchell), riding out the storm after the Pogues rescued Kie.

In the morning, they look outside and find the whole island has been completely destroyed, basically. The Pogues help Rafe and Sofia get a boat, gas, and supplies. After saying some heartfelt goodbyes, Rafe and Sofia leave and plan to island hop their way down to Brazil, leaving the United States behind them.

It's a sad moment, but the Kook King and Pogue Queen are still together. Maybe one day, they'll be able to come home, or they'll start a new life abroad.

That's how Rafe's story ends. He does miss the birth of JJ and Sarah and John B's wedding, but we do see him on FaceTime as the credits roll.
