When releasing his Rebel Moon movies on Netflix, director Zack Snyder promised that there would be R-rated director's cuts of both parts, and he's officially made good on that promise. On June 11, the director announced the release date for the newly cut editions of the movies. Both Rebel Moon director's cut movies will be released on Friday, Aug. 2 on Netflix.

Along with the release date, Snyder also revealed the new titles for both movies. While they were known as Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire and Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver with their inital releases on Netflix, the director's cuts will be known as Rebel Moon — Chapter One: Chalice of Blood and Rebel Moon — Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness.

The director's cuts have been teased for quite some time, and the "viciously sexier, bloodier" versions will drop on Netflix before summer ends. Snyder's announcement additionally came with a trio of photos that preview what's to come in both chapters. Check out Snyder's succinct announcement and photo tease in his post below!

Upon release, both of Snyder's Rebel Moon movies struggled with critics and received mostly negative reception. The first part holds a 21% rating on Rotten Tomatoes while the second part holds a 15% rating. The movies also struggled to connect with audience, each debuting with 23.9 million views and 21.4 million views in their respective opening weekends. (For comparison, Jennifer Lopez's Atlas debuted to 28.2 million views in the same amount of time.)

Perhaps the movies will have a bigger moment with the double release of their director's cuts. While the new editions of the movies were said to span six hours in length, Netflix didn't make the runtimes known at the time of the release date announcement. Considering how the streaming service measures viewership, an extended runtime will inevitably help boost views, though more people than just Snyder and Rebel Moon fans will have to tune into the R-rated re-releases.

Beyond the release of the original and director's cuts, there's still a planned franchise of either four or six films, depending on whether the next two stories will be split into two parts. Snyder has already started writing the third film ahead of the release of the first two director's cuts. We'll have to see if the performance of these two movies in August holds any weight for the future of the franchise.
