In March 2024, Netflix announced that they were producing a documentary series on tennis player Carlos Alcaraz after his win against Rafael Nadal during The Netflix Slam live event. Little did they know that the planned documentary series would be chronicling such a huge, major, massive moment in the rising star's career.

Alcaraz, who is 21 years old, was already "the youngest No. 1 player in the history of international tennis," according to Netflix's initial announcement, but he went on to solidify that fact with his Wimbledon win in July 2024. His win against Novak Djokovic marked his second consecutive Wimbledon title in a long line of big wins for the man of the moment.

Thankfully, fans will have the opportunity to see all of his recent success play out in Alcaraz, the Docuseries, which Netflix has confirmed will be released in 2025. As of this writing, the episode count hasn't been revealed.

While the streaming service didn't announce the specific release date, we can seemingly assume that they will want to capitalize on his accomplishments and release it as soon as possible (or at least before tennis heats up again next summer).

Carlos Alcaraz docuseries follows star through Wimbledon win

We know that the Alcaraz docuseries will drop on Netflix in 2025, but it's unclear how long the Netflix cameras will be following the big winner around. The streamer started filming the documentary series at the same time as The Netflix Slam and followed him through one win to the next and the next. Netflix also promises that fans will get to see the star on and off the tennis court.

Just like Netflix's tennis documentary series Break Point, viewers will have up close and personal access to Alcaraz and his rise to become one of the biggest names in tennis. Upon the announcement of the docuseries, Alcaraz said to Netflix, "People are going to get to know everything you don’t see on a tennis court. I think it’s something very different.”

Following his win at The Netflix Slam in March, Alcaraz posted a video on Instagram writing "Game, Set, Netflix" on the screen, which doubled as his announcement of the docuseries, also with the inclusion of the 2025 release timeframe. Again, how could anyone, including him, have known at the time just what exciting magic the Netflix cameras would capture for fans to watch in 2025?

Over the past few years, Netflix has been slowly but surely building its lineup of sports-oriented programming, from the docuseries Quarterback, Full Swing, Drive to Survive, Sprint, Simone Biles: Rising, and more to the upcoming airings of the NFL's Christmas Day games. Alcaraz's super-timely docuseries just adds to the streamer's bragging rights to some of the top sports content on streaming.
