Will Netflix make more of its Polish crime thriller The Mire?

Today is a special day for fans of the Polish crime thriller series The Mire as the highly-anticipated third season is finally here! After originating on Showmax, the series moved Netflix for global distribution for seasons 2 and 3, which released on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024.

The Mire Millennium follows yet another case with the Gronty forest at the center. Picking up a few years after season 2, which took place in 1997, The Mire's third outing takes us to the cusp of a new millennium. Yet another body is uncovered in the forest and the investigators discover the body carrying a mysterious necklace that connects to some of the show's most pivotal characters.

Having released the second season in 2021, it has been a few years since viewers have gotten to see new episodes. I'm sure many eager fans have already zoomed through the latest batch of episodes, excited to find out how the final mystery unravels.

Unfortunately, while it's exciting to have new episodes, this will be the last round for The Mire.

The Mire Millennium is reportedly the final season

Its hard to find much information on this show on the internet as it's seems to be relatively underrated as far as Netflix series go. The Mire is a Polish drama and according to The Euro TV Place, season 3 is the last season. Hopefully fans feel satisfied by the ending because I doubt that Netflix will reverse course on it.

That said, it sounds like the writers had already planned ahead for this so it should be a cohesive final arc. Star Dawid Ogrodnik, who plays Piotr Zarzycki, also confirmed that this season will be the last in an Instagram post shared in early Feb. 2024.

According to the YouTube trailer description (which is embedded at the top of the page for those who want to check it out!), the third season will also take us back to the 1960s, which would have happened before the series began. It seems that the forest of Gronty still has a few more secrets to discover.

Besides Ogrodnik, expect to see returning characters like Witold Wanycz (Andrzej Seweryn), Magdalena Różczka (Anna Jass), Łukasz Simlat (Adam Mika), and more.

All three seasons of The Mire are now on Netflix.
