Where to watch Furiosa (and the Mad Max movies) since they're not on Netflix
Created by George Miller and Byron Kennedy, the Mad Max franchise has seen a resurgence in popularity in the last decade with the release of 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road. A sequel coming out 30 years after its predecessor, the movie became a pop culture phenomenon, even winning Academy Awards. While some might think the first three films from the late '70s and '80s are nothing but pure entertainment, the latest installments have seen critical acclaim, and the new release of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has Film Twitter shouting "we are so back!"
The first three movies follow protagonist Max Rockatansky (Mel Gibson), a broken man who seeks revenge after facing tragedy, living in the Australian Outback. Though the franchise takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, the first movie gives us a glimpse at society's deteriorating, and we follow Max's new place in the dystopian world. Mad Max: Fury Road takes place about 15 years after Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome and sees Tom Hardy in the role of Max. Furiosa, which just hit theaters on Friday, May 24, serves as a prequel to Fury Road.
Unfortunately, if you're looking to watch Furiosa (or any of the Mad Max movies) on Netflix this weekend, we come bearing bad news. In the United States, at least, none of the films are available to stream. The good news is that the first four movies are streaming elsewhere, so if you're subscribed to one of these below and can make it to a movie theater soon, you'll be able to enjoy the full franchise!
Mad Max movies in order and where to watch them
- Mad Max (1979): Streaming on Max, Peacock, Prime Video with Max add-on, Hulu with Max add-on
- Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981): Streaming on Max, Prime Video with Max add-on
- Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985): Streaming on Max, Prime Video with Max add-on
- Mad Max: Fury Road (2015): Streaming on Max, Hulu with Max add-in, Prime Video with Max add-on
- Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024): Playing in theaters
- Upcoming Mad Max prequel (no release date): Will play in theaters
Yup, Max is the streaming home of the Mad Max franchise, which makes sense considering the movies are produced by Warner Bros. It's interesting that the first movie is also available on Peacock, but I suspect that's due to some sort of licensing agreement that the rest don't have. Given this information, we are expecting Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga to stream on Max eventually after its theatrical run. At this time, we can't guarantee when that'll be, though.
While Warner Bros.' theatrical releases used to stream on Max exactly 45 days after hitting theaters, that's no longer the policy. That means it's usually a guessing game to know when a movie might become available on Max. A recent Warner Bros. release, Dune: Part Two, was added to Max 81 days after it premiered in theaters, or two months and 21 days. In this case, I'd recommend getting out and seeing Furiosa in theaters, not just because movies like this deserve to be watched on the big screen, but also because it could be two or three months until it hits streaming.

Not convinced to sign up for Max? I get it. There are so many streaming services and they're getting so expensive! If you're in need of a fast-paced action movie that is on Netflix, I'd recommend Kill Bill: Volume 1 and Volume 2, The Matrix movies, The Hunger Games movies, The Old Guard, and Ready Player One. Surely, you'll find what you're looking for on Netflix.
