Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell are reuniting (but not for Prison Break season 6)
By Reed Gaudens
Even almost 20 years after the series first premiered, Prison Break fans haven't let go of the series. The crime drama became a cult favorite with its premiere in 2005 on Fox, though the series seemingly burned bright and fast and ended after four seasons in 2009. Eight years later, the show returned with a revival, the nine-episode fifth season. Since then, fans have still wanted season 6.
On July 29, all five seasons of the beloved television series returned to Netflix for streaming, and that will surely have many fans revisiting the 90-episode series and even more discovering it for the first time. Once again, the questions about another potential revival season will surface, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards. However, the leading stars are set for reunion.
Prison Break stars reuniting for new series Snatchback
Back in June, Entertainment Weekly reported that Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell were set as the leading stars for the series Snatchback that's in development with Universal Television. The series loosely borrows its premise from the actual experiences of a covert intelligence officer and centers on a team risking their lives to recover hostages from dangerous situations around the world.
Snatchback will be written and executive produced by Scott Rosenbaum, who's known for his work on shows like The Shield and Queen of the South, as well as additional executive producing from Purcell, Tish Cyrus-Purcell (his wife and Miley Cyrus' mom!), and Dannah Axelrod Summers. As of this writing, there doesn't seem to be a network or streamer attached to the potential series.
Miller and Purcell have also reunited post-Prison Break to appear together in The CW's Arrowverse in episodes of The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman. Although, should Snatchback go to series with a network or streamer, the new series would mark the on-screen brothers' first time starring together in a series regular capacity since their hit show.
But if you're hoping for more Prison Break (but without Lincoln Burrows and Michael Scofield), you might be in luck. In November 2023, Variety reported that Mayans M.C. co-creator Elgin James was in the midst of writing and developing a new series at Hulu that's set within the world of Prison Break. Obviously, the new series would not be focused on any characters from the original.
Both in-the-works series give something exciting for Prison Break fans to look forward to. But in the meantime, you can watch all 90 episodes of Prison Break on Netflix and relive every thrilling plot twist from beginning to end. There might not be a sixth season coming down the pipeline, but rewatching the series doesn't get old and the legacy lives on — and could continue to live on in new ways.
All five seasons of Prison Break are currently available on Netflix.
