Netflix has ordered a new limited series titled Wayward, and it comes from Feel Good creator Mae Martin. More on this upcoming show below.
The eight-episode series was ordered back in April 2023. It was titled Tall Pines at the time, but it's been changed to Wayward. It's being described as a thriller series. Martin not only stars in the show but also serves as creator, executive producer, and co-showrunner. They will be co-showrunning the show with Ryan Scott, who is also signed on as an executive producer. Ben Farrell also executive produces through his Objective Fiction company, along with Hannah Mackay, Jennifer Kawaja, and Bruno Dubé. In addition, Sphere Media is the production company behind the series.
Here's the show's official logline via Netflix:
"Wayward is a thriller set in a bucolic but sinister town that explores the insidious underbelly of the “troubled teen industry” and the eternal struggle between one generation and the next."
Martin will play a leading role in the series. They will be joined by many other talented actors. Sarah Gadon (Ferrari), Brandon Jay McLaren (Snowfall, The Cleaning Lady), Sydney Topliffe (Davey & Jonesie's Locker), and Alyvia Alyn Lind (Chucky) are cast as series regulars, while Patrick J. Adams (Suits), Patrick Gallagher (Joe Pickett), and Josh Close (Killers of the Flower Moon) are tapped as recurring guest stars.
Unfortunately, not all of the roles have been disclosed yet, but here are the ones we know so far. Martin plays Alex Dempsey, while Gadon is believed to play Alex's partner, Laura. Adams will reportedly play a high school counselor, while Topliffe and Lind will portray best friends Abbie and Leila.
Golden Globe Award-winning actress Toni Collette recently joined the Wayward cast as a series regular, and she will be playing a character named Leanne, the headmistress at Tall Pines. Collette has worked with Netflix in the past on other projects. Her most recent project with the streamer was the thriller series Pieces of Her.
According to What's on Netflix, principal photography will reportedly start on July 2, 2024, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and last for about three months, wrapping up on Oct. 18, 2024. That being said, we can pretty much count out a 2024 release for this series. However, a 2025 release is likely to happen. Don't worry! We'll get back to you with the official release date once it's announced.
That's all we know about the Wayward limited series at the moment. Stay tuned to Netflix Life as we will be sharing new information about this show as it is released!
