Watch or skip Vikings: Valhalla season 3: The Netflix series ends on a high note
By Bryce Olin
Vikings: Valhalla is back for its third and final season on Netflix. The new season of the Vikings spinoff premiered on Thursday, July 11. It's been a while since Vikings: Valhalla season 2 hit Netflix in early 2023, so we know more than a few viewers are probably wondering if it's worth it to jump in and watch season 3.
The short answer is yes! Vikings: Valhalla season 3 is great!
Why you should watch Vikings: Valhalla season 3
If you watched the first two seasons of Vikings: Valhalla, you need to watch season 3. You don't want to leave these stories open-ended. You have got to see what happens with Freydis (Frida Gustavsson), Harald (Leo Suter), and Leif (Sam Corlett) right? What's the point of watching two seasons and bailing before the final season where it all comes together? And, that's not a spoiler, but this is the final season. This is how it ends.
In the third season, there's a big time jump. Leif and Harald are on a side mission to help Harald continue to gain fame and fortune before returning to become the King of Norway. Meanwhile, Freydis and the Vikings are facing threats from the church among their brethren and abroad.
I just want to recognize the brilliant performers in this series. Without Gustavsson, Suter, and Corlett absolutely crushing their lead roles, Vikings: Valhalla would not be nearly as successful as it has been. This trio is super talented, and I can't wait to see what they're going to do next. That also extends to the rest of the main and supporting cast, including Laura Berlin, who is outstanding as Emma of Normandy, and Bradley Freegard, who plays King Canute.
The final eight episodes are a terrific sendoff for this show. Did I get everything I wanted? No! My only wish is that we got more of Vikings: Valhalla, but I understand that it was time for the show to end. Viewership numbers haven't been where Netflix would probably want them to be, but I don't want that to detract from the quality of this show.
But, for what we do get and how it all shakes out for Freydis, Harald, and Leif, it's definitely good enough. Many TV shows do not get the ending that they deserve, so we're lucky to see Vikings: Valhalla bounce in a way that Jeb Stuart and the whole team wanted it to end.
Covering Netflix for 10 years, I've heard so much feedback about the length of time between seasons. Fans don't want to watch 6-10 episodes and then wait years before the next episodes drop. I've also heard that some fans like to wait until the full series is available to stream, so they can binge-watch within a relatively short window.
All 24 episodes of Vikings: Valhalla are now streaming on Netflix. There are simply no excuses left. It's time to watch this great Netflix series.
Why you can skip Vikings: Valhalla season 3
There are no good or valid reasons for skipping Vikings: Valhalla season 3 unless you're totally out on historical dramas like The Last Kingdom, Vikings, and others. I enjoy shows set in this time period, but others don't. If that's you, feel free to skip Vikings: Valhalla season 3. If not, you should definitely give it a try.
That's the only group of people who I wouldn't recommend this series. Vikings: Valhalla is excellent, and I'm just bummed that the show has come to an end.
Verdict: Vikings: Valhalla season 3 deserves your attention
I don't know any other way to say it: You need to watch Vikings: Valhalla season 3. This is, probably, the best season of the series so far. It's close, but I just enjoyed how everything comes together at the end of the season. I'm not going to share spoilers, so you'll just have to watch. It's good, though! I promise!
And, if you're on the fence about watching Vikings: Valhalla for the first time, just fire it up and give it a try. It's so good!
In addition to Vikings: Valhalla, all six seasons of Vikings are streaming on Netflix, too!
