So posh! Victoria Beckham documentary series in the works at Netflix
By Reed Gaudens
The Beckhams are returning to Netflix, but this time around, Victoria will be the star of the show. On Aug. 21, Netflix announced that production has begun on a documentary series chronicling the life and career of Victoria Beckham. From her time as a world-famous pop star in the record-breaking girl group Spice Girls to her current life as a mother and businesswoman, we'll see it all!
News of the as-yet-untitled docuseries centered on the second half of the Beckham powercouple comes almost one year after the release of footballer David Beckham's documentary series BECKHAM in October 2023. The four-part series was a viewership hit and landed an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series. Victoria appeared in the series alongside her husband and provided one of the most hilariously endearing viral moments of the series.
As of the announcement in August 2024, Netflix hasn't revealed how many episodes the documentary series will contain, though the streamer's docuseries generally contain about three or four episodes. It's also unclear how deep the series will go into Victoria's past, between her upbringing and rise to stardom as a singer, but there's a defined emphasis on tracing her career pivot to creating a fashion and beauty empire.
According to Netflix's Tudum, "the upcoming doc promises to get up close and personal with the former pop star as she juggles her business and family life." Like BECKHAM featured interview and appearances by Victoria, the pop and fashion icon's own doc will obviously also feature interviews and appearances by David. Here's the official synopsis via Netflix's press release:
"Through an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Victoria’s business, access to Victoria, her family, those closest to her and her fashion journey and including never-before-seen archive, the series will tell the story of Victoria’s reinvention as a Creative Director of her own brand. The series executive producers are Emmy-nominated Nicola Howson and BAFTA-nominated Julia Nottingham."
David Beckham's production company Studio 99 will produce the series with the company's own Nicola Howson as the executive producer. Julia Nottingham, who worked on Netflix documentaries Pamela: A Love Story and The Greatest Night in Pop, will also executive produce. While Fisher Stevens directed BECKHAM, Victoria's series hasn't yet landed a director.
No doubt, the docuseries will once again be a huge success for the Beckhams and further humanize the famous couple amid the misconceptions strewn about the tabloids since the '90s. And we know for sure Victoria's sense of humor will be front and center. Netflix didn't tease a release timeframe, though we're predicting a release sometime in mid to late 2025.
