Upgraded starring Camila Mendes and Archie Renaux won't be on Netflix (where to watch)

Hot on the heels of the emotional series finale of Riverdale, Camila Mendes makes her first post-Veronica Lodge move in the Amazon Prime Video romantic comedy Upgraded. The movie, which will be released on Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, is perfectly timed to the Valentine's Day holiday. What's better than celebrating the love-themed holiday than with a brand-new rom-com?

Unfortunately, as previously mentioned, Upgraded won't be available to stream on Netflix since it's an Amazon Prime Video original. It's a bummer since it stars two Netflix stars. Camila Mendes starred in the Netflix original movies Do Revenge, Dangerous Lies, and The Perfect Date, as well as Riverdale, which was an international Netflix original and a popular title on the platform overall.

Also, Mendes' handsome co-star Archie Renaux of course turned heads as Mal Oretsev in the cult favorite Shadow and Bone. Even though the series was recently canceled after two seasons, Renaux also starred in the rom-com The Other Zoey and will next be seen in the upcoming Alien franchise film Alien: Romulus. But first, we have to watch him shine in Upgraded, which looks to be another great romantic comedy in a year that's already bringing back the rom-com... again!

"Ana (Camila Mendes) is an ambitious intern dreaming of a career in the art world while trying to impress her demanding boss Claire (Marisa Tomei). When she's upgraded to first class on a work trip, she meets handsome Will (Archie Renaux), who mistakes Ana for her boss – a white lie that sets off a glamorous chain of events, romance, and opportunity, until her fib threatens to surface."

Upgraded features a classic romantic comedy setup: A small lie allows someone to get everything they want, but as the lie gets bigger, things could potentially come crashing down. Don't let the title and poster fool you, though. Mendes, who also executive produced the movie, isn't playing a flight attendant; just an art intern whose upgrade to first class changes her life for the better... at least for a while, it seems.

The film comes from director Carlson Young, an actress who's appeared in such series as Scream: The Series, Emily in Paris, As the Bell Rings, and more. Young previously made her directorial debut with the 2021 fantasy horror film The Blazing World, and in 2017, she married Foster the People band member Isom Innis.
