In her first movie role since 2019's Killer Anonymous and first acting role since L.A.'s Finest ended in 2020, Jessica Alba returns to her Dark Angel action hero roots with Netflix's summer movie Trigger Warning. The movie star who's been in flicks like Fantastic Four, Honey, Sin City, and Spy Kids: All the Time in the World teams up The Night Agent's Gabriel Basso in the must-watch thriller.

Although Trigger Warning was filmed way back in the fall of 2021, well before The Night Agent ever became a hit series on Netflix, the streamer finally confirmed that the movie would be released in the summer of 2024. The official June 21 release date was announced in May, and it's sure to be one of the biggest new movies of the summer. Here's what you need to know about Trigger Warning on Netflix!

Alba, who also produces the movie under her Lady Spitfire production company, headlines the movie as Parker, a Special Forces commando. Having been traumatized in her line of work and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, she's also stricken by the news of her father's sudden death. Parker then takes over as owner of her dad's bar in her hometown. Before long, Parker becomes entrenched in discovering what really happened to her father while also dealing with a local gang and other unsavory happenings in her town.

Read the film's full synopsis via Netflix:

"Special Forces commando Parker (Jessica Alba) is on active duty overseas when she gets called back to her hometown with the tragic news that her father has suddenly died. Now the owner of the family bar, Parker reconnects with her former boyfriend-turned-sheriff Jesse (Mark Webber), his hot-tempered brother Elvis (Jake Weary) and their powerful father Senator Swann (Anthony Michael Hall), as she looks to understand what actually happened to her dad.

Parker’s search for answers quickly goes south and she soon finds herself at odds with a violent gang running rampant in her hometown. Unsure of who she can truly trust, Parker draws on her commando training and proves herself a force to be reckoned with as she hunts down the truth and attempts to right what has gone wrong in Swann County, with the help of her covert ops partner and hacker Spider (Tone Bell) and connected local dealer Mike (Gabriel Basso). Directed by Mouly Surya, written by John Brancato & Josh Olson and Halley Gross, and produced by Erica Lee, Basil Iwanyk and Esther Hornstein, Trigger Warning also stars Kaiwi Lyman and Hari Dhillon."

In an interview with Netflix's TUDUM, Alba opened up about relating to what her character was going through from experiencing something similar at the same time in her personal life. "My grandfather passed away in the process of developing this movie. I drew from a lot of that personal experience when I was doing the movie just because it literally just happened, and I got to actually use a lot of my family’s photos in the scenes in the bar." The director, Molly Surya, also related the movie's themes of loss, having lost her father, too.

Cast

Obviously, Jessica Alba takes on the movie's starring role, and though she has been in a number of action movies throughout her long and successful career, Trigger Warning still fulfilled her action hero dreams. (Someone make sure she knows she already was an action hero!) She told TUDUM that she "loved Luc Besson’s La Femme Nikita. I also loved Ripley [in Alien], and I love Sarah Connor in Terminator." The talented star also noted that it had been a minute since she took on such an intense action role.

Beyond Alba, the cast also includes a number of recognizable stars, one obviously being someone who's recently become a huge Netflix star. The Night Agent's Gabriel Basso appears in a supporting role as a "connected local dealer." The cast also features Anthony Michael Hall, Mark Webber, Tone Bell, and Jake Weary in key supporting roles. Take a look at the film's full cast:
