The Vince Staples Show season 2 likely won't happen for this reason

We're hoping Netflix changes their minds based on the show's success.

The Vince Staples Show is a hilarious, satirical, semi-autobiographic series based on the life of rapper-actor Vince Staples and it's been making waves at Netflix thanks to its charming premise and smart writing.

But with just five short episodes available, some fans are wondering where the rest of the show is at? And if there are only five installments for now, could Netflix renew the series for a second season?

Unfortunately for fans and viewers, it doesn't look like Netflix is interested in ordering more of The Vince Staples Show. For starters, it is billed as a "limited series" on the website. Additionally, Staples told a fan on Twitter (now X) that Netflix didn't purchase any episodes beyond the five we've already received.

Released on Feb. 15, 2024, The Vince Staples Show has been in the Netflix Top 10 consistently since its debut and it's generated great reviews from audiences and critics alike. Currently, the show has a 91% approval score on Rotten Tomatoes. Because of its short length, it probably isn't too expensive to produce either, so if the show maintains excellent viewership, that could all work in its favor for potential renewal.

Given the acclaim and the fact Staples himself seems open to producing more content, is it possible that Netflix could change their minds? Maybe. Staples appears to hope so, as seen in the embedded tweet. He told fans to continue talking about the series and watching it since "peer pressure works" and he wants to keep it going.

The dramedy follows Staples as he navigates life as a "kind of famous, kind of rich, kind of criminal (but not really) rapper." At times there's drama, others its comedy, but that's the appeal of the series, says Staples, who told Tudum that he likes how the show depicts "the light sides of darkness and the dark sides of lightness."

While we wait to see if Netflix changes their minds (maybe if the series nets some Emmy nominations this year, which I totally think is possible!), you can watch or rewatch the five episodes available right now.
