The Union soundtrack features Bruce Springsteen, Charli xcx, and more
By Reed Gaudens
Academy Award winner Halle Berry and Academy Award nominee Mark Wahlberg have officially teamed up for the action-comedy movie The Union on Netflix, and it's one of the biggest new releases in August. The movie stars headline the high octane thriller about long-ago significant others who reunite in the most unexpected way you could ever imagine.
Berry plays Roxanne Hall, a spy for the United States government, while Wahlberg plays the fish out of water plumber Mike who's suddenly recruited into an action packed and risky intelligence mission. The Union features all of the heart, humor, and fast-paced action sequences movie fans could want, and the movie has an excellent soundtrack of catchy songs and thrilling score to set the scene.
One of the first songs played in the film is "Lovely Day" by Bill Withers, which sets the tone of additional throwback songs featured in the movie. Since Roxanne and Mike were high school sweethearts, there's an inherent nostalgia weaved into the emotional depth of the story, and that makes the use of oldies by Bruce Springsteen, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and The Romantics super fitting.
The Union soundtrack and score
In one special scene early on in the movie, Mike plays "Jersey Girl" by Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band for Roxanne, and while it might not end how you would hope, it's still a sweet scene with great song attached to it. The movie partly takes place in New Jersey before Roxanne recruits Mike into her world of secret agents and he winds up across the pond.
Now, pop music fans who have been having a "brat summer" are probably wondering where they can hear Charli xcx in the movie. Don't expect to hear one of her most recent hits such as "360" or "Apple." The song in the movie comes from the artist's 2022 album Crash. You will have to listen closely, but the singer's song "Yuck" plays in the background of a coffeeshop. Keep your ears peeled!
