For fans of The Umbrella Academy, Netflix's offbeat superhero show based on the comic book of the same name, we come bearing good news and bad news. The good news is that it's finally returning after over two years with a new season, but the only catch is that this marks the show's conclusion. The Umbrella Academy follows the Hargreeves family, adopted siblings with powers who, each season, must band together to save the world from the impending apocalypse and other threats.

With a strong cast, quirky storytelling, and an awesome soundtrack, it's no surprise The Umbrella Academy has been a staple for the streamer. Though the third season, which was released in June 2022, didn't live up to my expectations, I'm still excited about the fourth. I'm eager to see how the writers will tie up the storylines — especially after the timeline reset at the end of season 3 — and hope they can bid goodbye to the show in a satisfying way!

What to expect from season 4

Netflix has released a teaser trailer and a full-length trailer for The Umbrella Academy season 4 — if you haven't watched them yet, what are you waiting for? Get a preview of what we can expect from these final eight episodes right here:

Picking up where The Umbrella Academy left off in the final moments of the third season, the fourth season takes place in the reset timeline where the Hargreeves no longer have powers. That means the siblings have to start fresh and figure out their new identities But from the looks of the previews, that doesn't mean they won't be going on any missions together. In fact, it's clear that the siblings reunite for a purpose — we just don't know what that purpose is yet.

Obviously, Ben is in trouble this season, based on the trailer. And it looks like the apocalypse is coming again! There's no doubt the siblings are likely getting their powers back in season 4 through timeline hopping or other methods, though we don't know for how long. There's a clip of Viktor with his powers, while we also see Ben with tentacles. Five blinks and someone's got laser eye powers!

In the teaser, we hear the narration of Reginald who declares that "our world is changing." He announces "the inaugural class of the Umbrella Academy," though we don't see who or what his audience is. We also get to see Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, and David Cross in the previews, new additions to the final season.

There seems to be a time jump between seasons as we see Diego spinning a young girl around in front of a piñata in the teaser, who could be his daughter. Though, of course, this could also just be a totally different timeline. The teaser prepares us for what's going to be "the final timeline," and we are ready!

Here's the official synopsis for the fourth and final season, courtesy of Netflix:

"The Hargreeves siblings have scattered after the climactic showdown at the Hotel Oblivion led to a complete reset of their timeline. Stripped of their powers, each is left to fend for themselves and find a new normal — with wildly varying degrees of success. Yet the trappings of their uncanny new world prove too hard to ignore for very long. Their father Reginald, alive and well, has stepped out of the shadows and into the public eye, overseeing a powerful and nefarious business empire. A mysterious association known as The Keepers holds clandestine meetings believing the reality they’re living in is a lie and a great reckoning is coming. As these strange new forces conspire around them, the Umbrella Academy must come together one last time — and risk upsetting the shaky peace they’ve all endured so much to secure — to finally set things right."
