WARNING: Major spoilers ahead from The Perfect Couple episode 4.
Now at the halfway point of the limited series, The Perfect Couple episode 4 begins with the Coast Guard searching for Will and Chloe since they have gone missing. Meanwhile, Amelia's back at the police department chatting with Detective Henry about more Winbury family secrets, and they are the juiciest yet.
She's brought the bracelet Merritt was wearing the night of her death, the one gifted to her by Tag. Amelia's convinced, or at least working on a hypothesis, that the whole Winbury family could be in on it since Tag knew Merritt was pregnant. The other bombs she drops are the NDA revelation and Tag's past affair gone bad with Will's French tutor.
Thankfully, Will and Chloe return home safely, and it's a relief for their families, but the trouble's not over yet. Will still has some explaining to do with Chief Carter in order to clear his name, and Amelia's just getting started when it comes to sharing secrets with Detective Henry. In fact, we learn a shocking secret of her own.
Amelia's connection to Shooter is revealed
In a flashback, Amelia boards a private plane heading to the Winbury home in Nantucket, but she isn't met with Benji on the plane. Instead, she meets Shooter and there seems to be a bit of romantic tension between them. Shooter thinks they have met before at the train station, but Amelia insists they haven't. She's hiding something.
When they arrive at the Winbury home, they are still the only ones there. They stroll along the beach and get to know each other. Suddenly, in spite of the cold weather, Shooter strips down to his underwear and goes for a swim in the ocean. After some prodding, Amelia strips down too and joins him in the water. By all accounts, it's a romantic afternoon, and then they have a romantic evening by the fire. Shooter realizes that they have met before, but before the moment can get even more romantic, Benji arrives.
Back in the present, Amelia returns home from the police station and immediately speaks with Shooter about the fact that he tried to board the ferry and leave the island. He says he panicked when he was questioned about a "money thing." She's questioning everything now, including the pictures and drawings of Merritt she found in Benji's things.
Understandably, she questions Benji about the photos and he says Merritt asked him to paint her portrait. Okay, but how long had he known about Merritt and his dad? He caught them by the pool at the house during a golf weekend. Benji told Merritt to end the affair, but she didn't listen and ghosted him. He didn't want Amelia to find out.
For some reason, Benji gets into a fight with Thomas over the wedding cake. Abby and Tom were going to eat the wedding cake, and that sets Benji over the edge. While floating in the pool, Amelia has a memory of walking in on Shooter showering and seeing him naked. That would really set Benji over the edge if he knew. Again, she visits Shooter, and this time, they kiss... and Benji catches them!
Will didn't kill Merritt
Chief Carter, who's mad Will put his daughter in danger, questions the youngest Winbury at the hospital to learn the truth about what happened the night of the murder. Carter asks point blank why Will was in possession of Merritt's bracelet. Initially, Will won't reveal why he had the bracelet because "someone could get hurt." Eventually, he opens up.
Will caught Merritt and Tag speaking to each other privately, the moment she tells Tag she's pregnant, and races to talk with Merritt and warn her that his dad will never leave his mom. When Merritt reveals her pregnancy to Will, he offered to help with the baby when he receives his trust fund the following month.
As for the bracelet, he found it on the beach and picked it up to give back to her since it was an expensive item. And the suspicious cut on his hand? That was purely an accident that occurred while he was shucking an oyster, as one does on Nantucket. So, Will's no longer a suspect. He was just trying to keep his family in tact.
Greer gets a mystery call from Broderick
Will's homecoming is a bit interrupted when Abby fields a call from a man named Broderick Graham for Greer. When Abby passes along the call to Greer, she rebuffs the fact that anyone would call their home given the circumstances. She also claims that she doesn't know a Broderick. Gosia doesn't look too convinced, and when Abby snottily tells Broderick that Greer can't take the call, she looks sus, too.
Tag tries to talk to Greer about everything going on, but she's not interested in having a conversation with him. She's trying to keep up appearances for her book launch and houseguests. In spite of all that's happened, Tag still wants to be with Greer. She continues to push him away until she finally gives in and they have sex.
While writing, Greer has a memory of the rehearsal dinner party and a conversation she had with Merritt. Greer told Merritt that she's one of Tag's many affairs and he didn't mean anything he told her. When Merritt declines a drink, Greer seems to realize that she's pregnant. The memory seems to have her in distress.
Later, Greer decides to drop by the local dive bar and have a talk with Carter, which admittedly doesn't seem like the best idea. She asks about Chloe and apologizes for Will before asking him about Merritt's toxicology reports sitting in front of him. She has an angle. Without prompting, Carter reveals Merritt had barbiturates in her system, seemingly enough to contribute to her death.
Greer gives Carter the receipt for Merritt's bracelet, also informing him that Tag bought it. Because of this exchange of information, the next day, Carter and Henry arrive at the Winburys' doorstep to take Tag down to the station for questioning.
