The OG Vikings series coming to Netflix ahead of Vikings: Valhalla season 3

Check in with Ragnar Lothbrok and Lagertha ahead of the final season of Vikings: Valhalla when Vikings hits Neflix on March 30.

Skål, Vikings fans! Netflix is adding all six seasons of the original History Channel series to its platform ahead of the premiere of the third and final season of its spinoff series Vikings: Valhalla.

No, we still don't have a premiere date for Vikings: Valhalla season 3, but the addition of its parent show on the streaming service seems like a good indicator that the spinoff will return sooner rather than later, hopefully sometime this spring or early summer.

For those who jumped into Vikings: Valhalla first before seeing the show that started it all, now is your chance to check out the prequel since Vikings: Valhalla is set 100 years after the events of Vikings.

Vikings follows the tales of legendary Norseman, specifically Ragnar Lodbrok (Travis Fimmel), in early Scandinavia. Along with Ragnar, Vikings chronicles the adventures and stories of his family and descendants.

Vikings can currently be streamed on Hulu, Peacock, and Prime Video, but it's unclear if it will still be on those services when it comes to Netflix on March 30, 2024. There are six seasons and 89 episodes in total.

Vikings: Valhalla season 3 will be the last

The sad news for fans of the franchise is that the upcoming third season of Netflix Original series Vikings: Valhalla will serve as the last addition to the series. For now, it sounds like this is the end of the Vikings universe, though, who knows? Maybe we'll get another spinoff series or film someday.

Production on the third season wrapped back in 2022, so it's a little unclear why Netflix has held onto it for so long, but I'm assuming the strikes might have impacted things in some way, perhaps in the post-production process. Regardless, I expect we'll get some news on the third season soon.

On February 1, Netflix shared a first look at the saga's final chapter. Jeb Stuart, one of the series' co-creators and executive producers, told Tudum that he hopes audiences will "be excited by all the new heights that we’ve taken these heroes.”

If you haven't watched Vikings, I highly recommend checking out all six seasons when they start streaming on Netflix this March, and maybe you can even squeeze in a rewatch of Vikings: Valhalla to make savoring the final season even better!

Stay tuned to Netflix Life for more information on Vikings and Vikings: Valhalla.
