The good news just keeps on coming for The Night Agent fans! After word recently arrived that the filming process on the highly anticipated second season nears completion, series creator Shawn Ryan landed a lucrative four-year overall deal with Netflix that's not only good news for the man himself and the show, but also for fans.

Even though the likes of Sony, NBCUniversal, and Warner Bros. tried to snatch Ryan up, The Night Agent creator landed at Netflix with a four-year pact, and the deal begins after his previous tenure at Sony Pictures Television expires in October. According to Deadline, the deal includes The Night Agent and a possible "universe expansion," with a season 3 writers room opening in July.

While Netflix has not officially renewed The Night Agent for season 3, the show's renewal is all but a given since the series' debut in March 2023 came with a bang that landed it in the top 10 most popular English-language Netflix shows of all time. (It's still placed sixth on the list!) The second season will premiere later on in 2024, and official word on season 3 will surely follow.

The Night Agent spinoffs could be in the works, too

On top of the excitement surrounding another season of The Night Agent, the streamer reportedly also looks to franchise the series with spinoffs and other potential series. It's worth noting that no new properties in the Night Agent-verse have been officially announced to be in development by Netflix, and it's super early to predict which characters or stories could be explored in a potential spinoff.

But... that won't stop us from making predictions anyway, right? There's always the concept of a prequel series, which studios are huge fans of when it comes to spinoffs. A possible prequel series could focus on Peter's father and maybe even Peter's childhood. It would help us get to know our guy even better and learn what (and who) made him who he is.

There's also the possibility that a spinoff could focus on a character we have yet to meet in The Night Agent season 2. With a whole new mission and a whole new cast of characters, the second season opens Peter's world even more, and barring any unfortunate fates, one of the newbies could be an interesting launching pad for a new series. (Maybe Brittany Snow's character? Wishful preemptive thinking!)

No matter what amazing idea Ryan and his team come up with, it's going to be thrilling and a must-watch for fans of the series and the action genre. Now, the wait continues for the eventual premiere of season 2 later this year and the official green light for season 3. From the sound of it, we'll be riding with Peter's adventures, and other Night Agent-adjacent adventures, for a long time.
