The Diplomat season 2 is officially done filming, according to star Nana Mensah. And, there's even more good news!
Mensah told TV Line that filming wrapped in the UK. She also shared that season 2 should be released on Netflix later this year. It's not the first time that we've heard the new season is going to premiere this year, so that's a great sign for fans who are eagerly awaiting the premiere of season 2 of the Netflix original series starring Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell, and David Gyasi.
Mensah also told TV Line that season 2 is “even better, more dynamic, more everything. The tensions have mounted in a way that is really propulsive and exciting.”
So, we don't know when production on The Diplomat season 2 actually wrapped, but it was still in production as late as this spring.
Assuming the plan really is to roll out season 2 later this year, we could see The Diplomat season 2 as early this summer, but that has not been announced yet.
As you'll recall, The Diplomat season 1 ending on an explosive cliffhanger with Russell's Kate Wyler and Gyasi's Austin Dennison realizing who was actually behind the central conflict and attack on the British ships. Immediately after they figure out the mystery, they learn that Kate's husband, Hal, and Stuart Hayford, played by Ato Essandoh, were targeted in a car bombing.
Along with Mensah, Russell, Sewell, Gyasi, and Essandoh are returning for season 2. They'll be joined in the new season of Debora Cahn's Netflix series by Rory Kinnear, Ali Ahn, T'Nia Miller, Michael McKean, Miguel Sandoval, Celia Imrie, Jess Chanliau, and Simon Chandler.
Allison Janney has also joined the cast of The Diplomat season 2. Netflix announced the news that Janney was joining the cast in March 2024. In season 2, Janney will star as Grace Penn, the Vice President of the United States. So far, we've heard a lot about Janney's character, but we haven't seen her on screen yet. Well, now we will in season 2!
Right now, we're expecting to see The Diplomat season 2 sometime in the summer or fall of 2024. The first season premiered on Netflix on April 20, 2023, so it should be around a year and a half or so gap between seasons. If you need a refresher on what happened, we have recaps of every episode of season 1, but you also have plenty of time to watch the season on Netflix again!
Stay tuned for news about The Diplomat season 2!
