The series follows a woman named Seo-ha who discovers that her uncle has died and left her an inheritance in the form of a sizable plot of land. The problem is, Seo-ha doesn't recall having an uncle. Her mother passed away and she was estranged from her father from a young age and he's now dead too. But apparently this uncle is her father's brother and Seo-ha is supposedly his last living relative, hence why she gets the inheritance.
Spoilers ahead for The Bequeathed
For those who have been watching the show, you might have a few questions about how it all ends, or maybe you just want to spoil yourself ahead of time. Either way, below we'll be revealing what happens in the series!
Who killed Myung-gil?
Myung-gil is Seo-ha's deceased uncle whose death kickstarts the plot of the show. He was murdered by men seeking to buy his land so they could develop a golf course that would help make their village profitable. The village chief, Yuk Sang-soo, the guy who tries to push Seo-ha into signing over the land to him, and his friend/owner of a construction company Kim Kwang-soo, were responsible for Myung-gil's death by slowly poisoning him with thallium.
What was the deal with that sketchy DNA test?
Toward the end of the season, the medical doctor conducting the autopsies on the murders of Jae-seok and Hong-sik discovered a strange new blood sample connected to Seo-ha and her half-brother Young-ho. The owner of the blood sample is a woman with type A blood who is related to Seo-ha's paternal relative and Young-ho's maternal relative. Yet they have no other relatives.
Or so they think. How can the DNA come out like that? Well, in short... incest. Seo-ha and Young-ho's father, Myung-ho and his sister Myung-hee had a child together and Myung-hee has remained in hiding ever since due to the shame of it when rumors started spreading in their small village.
Who killed Seo-ha's husband Jae-seok and the private investigator Hong-sik?
After the discovery of Myung-hee being alive, it doesn't take long to figure out that she was the murderer. Her only desire is to get Young-ho the land so he can honor his father. To do so, she feels she has to get rid of everyone standing in her way, including Seo-ha and anyone affiliated with her. She kills Jae-seok because he's Seo-ha's husband and would be entitled to the inheritance alongside her and then she kills the private investigator since he was snooping around Young-ho and his only goal was to help get Young-ho out of the picture so Seo-ha could inherit the land without any conflict.
The Bequeathed ends with Young-ho and Seo-ha both surviving, and Myung-hee committing suicide by walking into a burning building after the trio had narrowly escaped from the mobsters who kidnapped Young-ho and attempted to kill him and Seo-ha. Ultimately, Seo-ha keeps the land and chooses not to sell it. She has Myung-hee's remains buried alongside her family.
