It's in the cards: Tarot brings the chills on Netflix with August release date
Horror fans, we have some good news to share. The supernatural horror flick Tarot has finally been given a Netflix release date. Get ready because this underrated horror movie is scheduled to be released on the streaming platform on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024!
Tarot was written and helmed by Spenser Cohen (Extinction, Moonfall) and Anna Halberg (The Expendables 4) in their feature film directorial debuts. It was released in theaters by Sony Pictures Releasing back in May and received mostly negative reviews from critics. However, the film still managed to be a box office hit, grossing $48 million worldwide against a budget of $8 million.
Based on Nicholas Adams' 1992 novel Horrorscope, Tarot revolves around a close-knit group of college friends who, after playing with a deck of cursed tarot cards, soon begin to die one by one in brutal ways related to their fortunes told in the cards. Now, the remaining survivors are on a race against time to solve the mystery before they lose their lives as well.
Harriet Slater (Pennyworth, Belgravia: The Next Chapter), Adain Bradley (All American, The Bold and the Beautiful), Avantika Vandanapu (Mean Girls, Senior Year), Wolfgang Novogratz (The Half of It, Yes God, Yes), Humberly González (Ginny & Georgia, Utopia Falls), Larsen Thompson (The Midnight Club), Jacob Batalon (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Reginald the Vampire), and Olwen Fouéré (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Watchers) all star in this horror flick.

We knew Tarot would eventually come to Netflix because of the deal that the streaming giant has with Sony. However, we had thought it would come to the streamer somewhere between September and November 2024 since we had seen previous Sony theatrical releases come to Netflix about four to six months after they were released in theaters. It looks like Netflix got its hands on the horror flick a little earlier than we expected, which is obviously good news.
Tarot is rated PG-13, meaning it may be inappropriate for ages under 13. It was given this maturity rating for horror violence, terror, bloody images, some strong language, and drug content. Overall, parents are strongly cautioned. Its runtime is 1 hour and 32 minutes, so it's not a long movie at all. Horror movies can vary in length, but they're typically about this long.
Tarot is set to land on Netflix on Aug. 1 at 12:00 a.m. PT/3:00 a.m. ET. Will you be watching this scary film?
