At the end of episode 4, Gus is almost to Alaska, but we’ll have to wait until we see them make landfall. Sweet Tooth season 3 episode 5, “The Tail-Tale Heart,” begins where the flashback from the season premiere ended.

Captain Thacker is attacked by his crew, who have decided that this sickness must not leave this ship. Captain Thacker says he needs to share “the blood of the Earth” with the world, but after fighting off a few of his crew, they succumb to the Sick and die. Captain Thacker seems okay and then a purple flower erupts from his chest Alien-style. What is going on?!

Finally, Gus, Singh, and Jepp arrive in Alaska, where they’re picked up by Nuka, who has never seen a hybrid before, and Siana. Gus realizes there’s something wrong with Birdie because she’s not there to meet him. After Siana explains what happened, they hop in the snow ride and head back for the secret base, which is not so hidden anymore. One of Zhang’s men, Tex, sees them arrive and calls Rosie to tell them Gus has arrived. They’re going to follow them.

Zhang pulls Rosie off the case and leaves her at their base with Becky. It seems mom’s not too happy! Becky apologizes to Rosie for killing one of her boys. Shortly after, Wendy makes her move.

Siana brings Gus and the gang to the outpost, and they try to figure out where Birdie is. In Captain Thacker’s journal, they find a picture of the cave. They decide that they need to try to find that cave. While they’re planning what to do, Gus starts hearing things. He can hear something that sounds like a heartbeat. Singh says it’s a beacon trying to show him the way. He’s able to focus in and hear the beacon. He points the way toward the oil pipelines and the Caribou Man, according to Nuka. Right before they leave, a page from the notebook falls out. It says, “All was unlocked when I sacrificed the deer.”

You know who else is part deer? Gus!

When they start to head out, Zhang’s forces arrive at the outpost. Zhang kills a man and takes the rest of the people hostage. Zhang plays Dr. Singh’s voice on a tape. Zhang believes that they found the blood of Earth, and that’s the answer to their problems. She wants Gus, so she can kill him and extract whatever is inside of him. She’s going to set “her grandsons” on anyone who won’t turn over Gus within the next five minutes.

Back with Becky, she finds a way to set herself free from the chains that they’re using to hold her. Wendy arrives just in time to save her from Jordan.

At the outpost, time is running out! Nuka and Gus sneak out, but Zhang’s team is on their tail.

Singh flips on Jepp, and he promises to lead Zhang to the cave where Gus is going. When all hell breaks loose at the outpost, Jepp takes out a few of Zhang’s men before Siana and Jepp escape from the outpost to help find Gus. Oh, and the dogs now have Gus’s scent.

Before they leave the outpost, Singh throws Captain Thacker’s journal into the fire to make sure that Zhang must take him to the cave if she's actually serious about ending the Sick. Other than Birdie and Siana, he’s the only one who has read Thacker’s journal, and it sure seems like Singh is planning to sacrifice Gus when they get to the cave.

As Gus struggles to find his way, the beacon returns, leading him the right way. When the dogs corner him eventually, the Caribou Man arrives, but the dogs attack him. Gus saves the Caribou Man’s life and scares off the dogs.

What in the world is going on? We'll find out in episode 6 on Netflix!
