Sadly, there's still no word on whether there will be a second installment of Survival of the Thickest on Netflix, but there's still much to be excited about. The comedy-drama series has just received multiple NAACP Award nominations, and they were definitely well-deserved.

On Jan. 26, nominations were announced, and all eyes were on who made the nomination list this year. Netflix reportedly came in first place, garnering a whopping 55 nominations, followed by Amazon coming in second with 27 nominations.

Some of the Netflix nominations include Outstanding Motion Picture for Rustin and They Cloned Tyrone, Outstanding International Motion Picture for Society of the Snow, Outstanding Short–Form (Live Action) for The After, and Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series for Mike Epps in The Upshaws.

Now when it comes to Michelle Buteau and her Netflix series Survival of the Thickest specifically, there were seven NAACP nominations. The nominations were in the categories of Outstanding Breakthrough Creative (Michelle Buteau), Outstanding Comedy Series (Survival of the Thickest), Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series (Tone Bell), Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series (Michelle Buteau), Outstanding Guest Performance (Garcelle Beauvais), Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series (Amy Aniobi), and Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series (Michelle Buteau).

Buteau also scored a nomination for Outstanding Reality Program for the Netflix show she hosts Barbecue Showdown. After the nominations were announced, Buteau was quick to show her appreciation on X, formerly Twitter. The official Netflix account on X even reposted her post.

Could this mean something? Could this be a sign that a season 2 renewal is on the horizon? Well, we don't want to read too much into this because it could simply be Netflix applauding Buteau for her accomplishments. However, we'll definitely be keeping on high alert for any new updates.

Make sure to check out the 55th NAACP Image Awards, airing live on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT on BET and CBS. Fingers crossed, Michelle Buteau and the Survival of the Thickest cast and crew go home with many awards.
