Sex Education star Asa Butterfield returning to Netflix in thriller series Out of the Dust

It looks like Sex Education star Asa Butterfield isn't quite done with Netflix just yet, seeing as though he's set to star in an upcoming Netflix thriller series titled Out of the Dust. More on his casting and the show below.

Butterfield is best known for starring in the lead role of Otis Milburn in the Netflix teen series Sex Education. He also had roles in the movies The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, Then Came You, Your Christmas or Mine?, All Fun and Games and Your Christmas or Mine 2. His next project, other than Out of the Dust, is an upcoming animated sci-fi film called Rogue Trooper. Besides Sex Education, he has starred in one other Netflix project, the horror-thriller film Choose or Die.

Now that it's been announced that he'll be in Out of the Dust, this marks his second Netflix series and his third Netflix project overall. Out of the Dust is a psychological thriller written by Julie Gearey (Intergalactic). The cameras are currently rolling on the six-part series in the United Kingdom with Jim Loach (Criminal Record, The Tower) and Philippa Langdale (A Discovery of Witches, Harlots) directing.

In addition, Double Dutch Productions is the production company behind the series, with Gearey, Iona Vrolyk, and Myar Craig-Brown serving as executive producers and Nick Pitt as producer.

The thriller series takes place in a conservative religious sect. We follow Rosie, a devoted wife and mother who finds herself on a journey of emancipation and sexual awakening following a chance encounter with an escaped convict.

Here's the official synopsis via Variety:

"Rosie lives with her husband Adam and daughter in a cloistered Christian community. The fateful arrival of escaped prisoner Sam into her life, reveals the reality and restraints of her world; perhaps this hidden religious community doesn’t have her best interests at heart. And, as the cracks begin to appear in her marriage, Sam presents as her saviour. But with his dark criminal past, where does the greatest danger lie – with the cult or with Sam?"

Molly Windsor (War of the Worlds, Traces) stars in the leading role of Rosie, while Fra Fee (Rebel Moon -Part One & Two, Hawkeye) portrays the role of the escaped convict, Sam. Butterfield plays Adam, Rosie's husband. The rest of the cast includes Siobhan Finneran (The Damned, Time) as Mrs Phillips and Christopher Eccleston (Young Woman and the Sea, True Detective) as Mr Phillips.
