BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning director Philip Martin brings Netflix subscribers a behind-the-scenes look into the process of securing the now-infamous BBC interview between journalist Emily Maitlis and Prince Andrew in the biographical drama film Scoop, streaming this Friday, April 5.

Peter Moffat penned the screenplay, which is an adaptation of the book Scoops: Behind the Scenes of the BBC's Most Shocking Interviews from former Newsnight editor Sam McAlister.

As teased by the trailer, the monumental BBC Newsnight interview, which took place in 2019, was an hour of television that would change everything. Considered the "scoop of the decade," the story revolved around the Prince's alleged relationship with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

In Scoop, Gillian Anderson plays presenter Emily Maitlis, who sits opposite of Prince Andrew (Rufus Sewell) and pushes the royal on his supposed ties to Epstein. Days following the real-life broadcast, Prince Andrew announced he would be stepping back from his public duties. The movie will chronicle how Maitlis worked tirelessly to negotiate what was once considered an "ungettable get" in the world of news broadcast.

Scoop premieres on April 5

As mentioned above, Scoop will begin streaming on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 12 a.m. PT/3 a.m. ET. The movie has a runtime of 1 hour and 42 minutes, so it's not overly long, but if you live in the U.S. you'll still be staying up quite late to watch it, might be better to save it for Friday night after work.
