Jinkies! Jeepers! Ruh-roh! All of the famous Scooby-Doo catchphrases! The day many fans have been waiting for and manifesting has finally arrived. On April 19, Deadline reported that Netflix had scooped up the live-action Scooby-Doo television series in the works from Greg Berlanti's Berlanti Productions. It's time to get out those dream-casting vision boards!

According to various outlets, there's no word yet on any plot details or castings as the project is still in the early days of development and an official deal hasn't yet closed between Warner Bros. Television and Netflix. So far, the prospective series has a "script-to-series commitment," which basically means that if Netflix likes the script, a series order will soon follow.

Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg are on board to write the script and executive produce the Scooby-Doo live-action series. The pair were previously involved with Netflix's short-lived Cowboy Bebop series and Everything Sucks! as well as titles like MGM+'s From and Prime Video's Citadel. For his part, Berlanti most recently worked on Netflix's latest teen series Dead Boy Detectives.

A live-action Scooby-Doo TV series is happening!

Ever since the 2002 live-action film Scooby-Doo became a cult classic, it's been a thinly veiled priority for both fans and Hollywood to nab a television series, too. Hopefully, the potential Netflix series can harness the quirky camp quality and the larger-than-life fun of the film starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Linda Cardellini, Freddie Prinze Jr., and Matthew Lillard.

While there can still be laughs and lighter moments, the new take on the famous property will be a drama series. Well, we all know that Berlanti's other production Riverdale was also designated as a drama, but it was sometimes a musical and, to some, an unintentional sitcom. The CW series was dark but still had its witty moments, though it seems unlikely we'll be getting something as outlandish with Scooby.

From here, there are so many questions to be answered. What will the tone be? How dark will the mysteries be? Will Scooby have the same presence as a talking member of the team? Who from the Berlanti-verse — or the 2002 movie! — could potentially star in the series? It's going to be so exciting to watch the series come together. Just like Mystery Inc.'s various cases, we'll be on the edge of our seats from now until its (fingers crossed) release date.
