Rebel Moon: Part One cast and character guide

When a tranquil farming colony settled on a distant moon is threatened by the military force of the Motherworld, the colony's survival depends on an outsider named Kora who traverses the galaxy to recruit people to fight back against the Imperium. That's the plot of Rebel Moon: Part One - A Child of Fire, Zack Snyder's big sci-fi epic franchise-starter coming to Netflix on Friday, Dec. 22. Part Two is already slated for an Apr. 2024 release date and there are plans underway for more installments in what Netflix's hopes will become a big new exclusive IP.

Rebel Moon features a lot of actors who have worked with Snyder before, along with plenty of recognizable faces fans will be excited to see in this blockbuster film. Keep reading to learn more about some of the actors and characters starring in the film.

Sofia Boutella as Kora

Sofia Boutella stars as Kora, a former soldier for the Imperium military who takes it upon herself to recruit warriors to take a stand against the Imperium before they return to the peaceful farming colony known as Veldt. Boutella is an accomplished Algerian actress and dancer who has starred in many acclaimed films and projects throughout the years. Some of her most memorable movies include Kingsman: The Secret Service, The Mummy, Atomic Blonde, Climax, and Star Trek Beyond. She'll next star in Argylle and will return for Rebel Moon: Part Two.

Charlie Hunnam as Kai

Charlie Hunnam has been acting in Hollywood for many years now, but most people probably know him as Jax Teller from the award-winning FX series Sons of Anarchy, which ran for seven seasons. Since then he has mostly starred in movies like Pacific Rim, The Gentlemen, Triple Frontier, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, and Crimson Peak. In Rebel Moon, the English actor plays a pilot named Kai, one of several recruits sought after by Kora.

Michiel Huisman as Gunnar

Dutch star Michiel Huisman plays the character Gunnar, a very close friend of Kora who is happy to join her mission in her quest against the Motherworld. Gunnar is a farmer and familiar with Kora's other friend Hagen. He also works with Cassius, a warrior on his team. Huisman has many credits under his belt, including the movie The Age of Adaline which he starred in with Blake Lively, and the hit Max series The Flight Attendant. Some of his other credits include The Haunting of Hill House, Echo 3, The Young Victoria, Nashville, Orphan Black, Game of Thrones, and The Invitation.

Djimon Hounsou as Titus

Kora isn't the only character with ties to the Imperium, Djimon Hounsou's Titus was a former Imperium general who gets recruited into the fight against them. Hounsou is an Academy Award-nominated actor known for playing Korath the Pursuer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and he has also appeared in the DCEU as different characters, notably as Shazam. Other popular movies he's been in include Gladiator, Constantine, Furious 7, and A Quiet Place Part II.
