Outer Banks band The Runarounds gets their own show (but it's not an OBX spinoff)
Get ready to rock n' roll to the beats of Outer Banks' favorite band, The Runarounds, as they step into the limelight with their very own show! In an unexpected musical twist of fate, Amazon has greenlighted an eight-episode series, following a tight-knit group of young adults from "all walks of life who come together to form a rock band the summer after graduating from high school".
According to insiders, this music drama, brought to life by Outer Banks creator Jonah Pate and the creative mind behind Fringe, David Wilcox, promises an epic journey of the band's quest for fame. While the series is not a direct spinoff of Netflix's Outer Banks, it will feature the same group - The Runarounds - that were previously featured in a season three episode.
The fictional drama is a blend of reality and fiction, drawing inspiration from the actual experiences of The Runarounds, and will feature the real-life band’s members - William Lipton, Axel Ellis, Jeremy Yun, Zendé Murdock, and Jesse Golliher — along with Lilah Pate and Kelley Pereira.

Everything we know about The Runarounds series
Get ready to join the musical rollercoaster with The Runarounds! According to IMDb, the series will follow "a high school band graduates and attempts to achieve fame and success in the music industry."
The highly-anticipated eight-episode series of The Runarounds is set to premiere exclusively on Prime Video, reaching music enthusiasts in over 240 countries and territories worldwide. While the official release date remains shrouded in mystery, one thing's for sure – it's going to be a global musical sensation!
Jonas Pate, who's behind the pilot episode shot in 2022, takes on the role of executive producer alongside David Wilcox, Joon Yun, Josh Pate, Shannon Burke, Lisa Mae Fincannon, and Scott Lambert. The lineup also includes David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Matt Thunell from Skydance Television. Expressing his excitement, Matt Thunell shared:
"I am thrilled to reunite with Jonas, David, Josh, and Shannon on a show that is so personal to them, and so brimming with heart and soul. We are grateful to Amazon for their partnership, and we can’t wait for the world to meet The Runarounds."
- Matt Thunell, president Skydance TV
But the enthusiasm doesn't stop with the producers. The band members are buzzing with anticipation, each taking to social media to share their excitement ahead of filming. As Axel Ellis declared on Instagram in February 2024:
"Let’s do this thing @primevideo. Beyond grateful to be part of this project with some of my best friends. Been a long time in the works... stoked to get goin."

Is The Runarounds connected to Outer Banks?
While the band took its first steps in the spotlight on the popular Netflix series, it's crucial to note that The Runarounds will exist as its own entity. Meaning it's not a direct spin-off of the Netflix drama. However, there's a delightful twist – Pate's daughter, Lilah, will be gracing the screen, bringing a touch of Outer Banks nostalgia to the mix.
As for any other juicy details about the series, we're in the dark for now. But we'll be sure to keep you updated as things progress and we hear more about its release. So, stay tuned!
