If you haven't heard the exciting news One Tree Hill fans have been screaming about since it dropped, Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton Morgan are working on a sequel series at Netflix! The pair will star in and executive produce the potential new series with others poised to make returns. Obviously, the news has everyone wanting to go back and rewatch the show that started it all.
While all nine seasons of One Tree Hill were available on Netflix in the past, the complete series was removed from the platform back in 2017. Watching the show on Netflix was how many new fans discovered the series and caught up with its nearly 200 episodes. However, in preparation for the potential sequel series in development at Netflix, you'll have to stream elsewhere.
Thankfully, One Tree Hill isn't one of the many television series that doesn't have a streaming home. In fact, the show is available to watch on TWO major streaming services that you're probably subscribed to. Sure, we're all hoping the original aughts classic returns to Netflix at some point, but here's where to binge-watch every deliciously dramatic and thrillingly nostalgic episode!
One Tree Hill is streaming on Hulu and Max
All nine seasons of One Tree Hill are currently available to stream on both Hulu and Max. While some might be subscribed to both services and can choose which one to stream it on at their leisure, there are price point differences that will sway those looking to choose the right option for your next One Tree Hill binge-watch.
Watch on Hulu
Hulu, which offers "best of" episode collections for the show's top ships, offers a number of subscription plans that are solid options for any consumer. The ad tier plan will run you $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year, while the ad-free subscription costs $17.99 per month. Hulu also has a number of Live TV plan options, as well as bundles with Disney+ and even Max! Check out the various options and choose the one that's right for you.
Watch on Max
Max also has the rights to all nine seasons, though there aren't any special episode collections. Like Hulu, Max offers multiple subscription plans, including these three main options: with ads ($9.99 per month), ad-free ($16.99 per month), and ultimate ad-free ($20.99 per month). Each plan also has an annual counterpart that offers a bit of savings on the price point compared to the monthly fee. Find which plan best suits your needs and begin streaming all your favorite shows.
The possible sequel would take place 20 years later
When One Tree Hill first premiered on The WB in 2003 (later making the leap to The CW in 2006 for the remainder of its run), the series centered on the small town of Tree Hill, North Carolina, and the complicated interpersonal and familial relationships that weaved through the fabric of the community. Friends, lovers, brothers, teammates, fathers, sons — you name it and the relationships were delicate, dynamic, and oh-so dramatic. That's likely what we can expect from the potential revival.
Bush and Burton will be back as Brooke and Peyton, 20 years after their high school days, now raising teenagers of their own. While teens these days are experiencing a lot of the same issues Brooke and Peyton dealt with in the early aughts — first loves, identity, friendship, body image — there's a whole new aspect of teen life with added anxieties from social media and completely different political climate. That's sure to be reflected in however the new edition takes shape.
So far, only Bush and Burton, who are also executive producing alongside Jensen and Danneel Ackles (who's in talks to reprise her role as Rachel), are confirmed to be on board to step back into their iconic roles. Chad Michael Murray has "no plans" to return as Lucas per Deadline, but since the series is still in early development, it's too soon to know which cast members could be back and which won't. For now, we just have to be patient and keep our fingers crossed.
