Netflix picks up Vince Vaughn comedy movie Nonnas for 2025 release
Guess which well-known actor is about to make his Netflix debut soon? Well, it's none other than Vince Vaughn, an actor known for starring in many comedy flicks. And guess what? The new Netflix movie he's set to star in is a comedy movie as well. It's titled Nonnas, and we're about to tell you everything there is to know about it down below.
After a competitive bidding war, Netflix came out securing the worldwide rights to the comedy film. The streamer reportedly paid $20 million+ for the rights. The movie was initially going to be part of the Toronto International Film Festival, but with Netflix snagging the rights, it will be released on its platform instead in 2025.
Nonnas is based on a true story. It was written by Liz Maccie (A Loud House Christmas, Siren) and directed by Stephen Chbosky (Wonder, Beauty and the Beast, The Perks of Being a Wallflower). Gigi Pritzker and Rachel Shane produce for Madison Wells and Jack Turner for Matador Content. Executive producers include Vaughn, Jay Peterson, and Todd Lubin for Matador Content, Scott Budnick and Ameet Shukla for 1Community, and Amanda Morgan Palmer and Stacy Calabrese for Madison Wells.
The film stars Vaughn as Joe, a single man working a horrible job. He's very close with his mother, who has spoiled him with her amazing cooking. However, his life gets turned upside down when his mother passes away.
Now grief-stricken, Joe tries his best to overcome his sorrow by opening his own Italian restaurant to honor his late mother. To help run his new establishment, he hires a bunch of Italian grandmothers who ultimately become his surrogate moms.
Joining Vaughn in the cast are Susan Sarandon, Lorraine Bracco, Talia Shire, and Brenda Vaccaro as the Italian grandmothers/surrogate moms. In addition, Linda Cardellini, Drea De Matteo, Joe Manganiello, Michael Rispoli, and Campbell Scott also star.
Producer Gigi Pritzker tells Deadline she was "delighted" that Nonnas found a home at Netflix. Executive producer Scott Budnick also expressed his excitement at the movie landing at Netflix and shared what the movie is about. He says, "Nonnas is a celebration of family – the ones you’re born into and the ones you create."
Sadly, this is all we know about the comedy film so far. Once we have the official release date and the trailer drops, we'll be sure to come back and share these juicy deets. But for now, stay tuned to Netflix Life!
