Happy 2024! Netflix has already started releasing new shows and movies, and we're looking forward to checking many of them out. And we can expect more and more shows and movies to continue to come out throughout the year. But what we're most excited to watch are all the new documentaries.

At the top of the year, we saw the release of the documentaries Bitconned and You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment, which both dropped on Jan. 1.

Bitconned is a true-crime documentary film centering around three men who took advantage of the cryptocurrency market to scam millions from investors and fund their luxurious lifestyles. On the other hand, You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment is a docuseries following identical twins who decide to take part in a scientific study where they change their diets and lifestyles for eight weeks to see how food impacts the body.

Break Point returned with its second installment on Jan. 10. This season, we watched as a new group of some of the best tennis players in the world returned to the courts to compete in the Grand Slams and other tournaments all over the world. The second season also followed the lives of some of the players from season 1.

Six Nations: Full Contact

Six Nations: Full Contact is a docuseries focusing on some of the best rugby teams in Europe as they go against each other to take home the prestigious trophy in the 2023 Six Nations Championship.

Alexander: The Making of a God

Another docuseries that was released on Netflix in January is Alexander: The Making of a God. It explores the life of the legendary Alexander the Great and his daring conquest of the Persian Empire. The docuseries also features interviews from experts and dramatized segments.

The UnXplained with William Shatner season 4

Another season of The UnXplained arrived on Netflix in January. Seasons 2 and 3 were already streaming on the platform, and season 4 landed on Jan. 25. It's an investigative docuseries hosted by Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning actor William Shatner. It explores some of the "world's most strange and inexplicable mysteries." Some of the subjects explored in the fourth season are Monoliths, the Wild West, and the Bermuda Triangle.

American Nightmare

From the filmmakers who brought us The Tinder Swindler, American Nightmare focuses on the infamous case and story of Denise Huskins and her boyfriend Aaron Quinn who in 2015 were accused by police of staging a home invasion and kidnapping. Additionally, it's a three part docuseries consisting of new interviews and interrogation footage.

Vroom! Vroom! NASCAR: Full Speed is a five-part docuseries following the events of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs and championship race. Viewers get to watch nine NASCAR drivers as they compete for the championship and one of the most coveted titles in motorsports.

Lover, Stalker, Killer

Love, Stalker, Killer is a docuseries that landed on Netflix in February. It's a true-crime doc that centers around Nebraska auto mechanic Dave Kroupa. After getting out of a long-term relationship, Dave is ready to get back into the dating world, so he tries online dating. But his search for love quickly takes a sinister turn when one of the women he's dating turns up dead, and another one is found to be the murderer.

Einstein and the Bomb

We recommend checking out Einstein and the Bomb, a documentary film exploring key moments in the German-born theoretical physicist’s life such as his complex relationship with Hitler, Germany, and the atomic bomb. It's a dramatized documentary using archived footage and Einstein's own words.

Crime Scene Berlin: Nightlife Killer

This April, Netflix will be dropping a true crime docuseries called Crime Scene Berlin: Nightlife Killer. It's a German three-part series exploring a true-crime case about a mysterious series of murders that took place in Berlin's nightlife in 2012. Known nationally as the "Coma Killer," the suspect is believed to have chosen their victims at random and drugged them with an unknown substance.

This docuseries shares the viewpoints of the relatives of the victims, a survivor, as well as the public prosecutor and criminal investigators responsible at the time.

An investigative docuseries worth checking out this April is Files of the Unexplained. It explores eight different puzzling stories of strange encounters, bizarre disappearances, and haunting events. Some of the mysteries explored in the series are an alien abduction, a peculiar missing-person case, and a mystery regarding severed feet washing up ashore.

What Jennifer Did

On April 10, Netflix will be releasing a chilling true crime documentary film exploring the horrifying night that a violent crime shook a quiet Canadian town. It's called What Jennifer Did, and it's directed by Jenny Popplewell, the same director who helmed American Murder: The Family Next Door. It will tell the twisted story of how a young Canadian woman named Jennifer Pan hired hitmen to kill her parents and tried to set it up as if it was a robbery gone wrong.

Our Living World

After watching all those dark true crime docs, you should watch something lighter that'll lift up your spirits. Our Living World is one of those shows we recommend checking out. It's a four-part nature docuseries narrated by Academy Award-winning actress Cate Blanchett.
