Where are all the Stranger Things fans? We have good news to share. No, the official release date for the highly anticipated fifth and final season has not been revealed yet, but it is confirmed to be coming out in 2025. What we're excited to share is what Stranger Things star Matthew Modine had to say about being given the honors to officiate his fellow co-star Millie Bobby Brown's upcoming wedding.
If you didn't know, the young British actress is engaged to actor Jake Bongiovi, the son of musician Jon Bon Jovi. They've been in a relationship since 2021 and got engaged back in April 2023. Millie announced their engagement via an Instagram post. In February 2024, she shared details about how the proposal went down during her appearance on The Tonight Show. According to Millie, Jake wanted to go above and beyond when popping the question, so he decided to propose to her underwater. How sweet!
While details about the upcoming wedding, such as the wedding date, are not known to the public, we do know who will be officiating Millie and Jake's wedding, and it's none other than Millie's Stranger Things co-star Matthew Modine. Matthew played the role of Dr. Martin Brenner aka Papa for seasons 1, 2, and 4. We find out later in the sci-fi series that Dr. Brenner had been conducting experiments on kids with supernatural abilities, and one of those kids was Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown.
In March 2024, Matthew revealed in an interview with Access Daily that Millie and Jake had asked him to officiate their wedding after learning that he had a license to do so. He told interviewers Mario Lopez and Kit Hoover, "I have one of those licenses to get people married and Millie thought it’d be great and then Jake said it would be a great idea, so I wrote the wedding vows and they loved what I wrote for them to join hands and to become husband and wife." He also shared that it would be his second time officiating a wedding with the first being his friend's wedding.
Now, Matthew is sharing his thoughts on how he thinks the big day will go. In an April 2024 interview with Fox News Digital, he says that the day of the wedding will be a "very emotional day." He goes on to say that he's known Millie since she was 11 years old, which is why it means a lot to him that he's officiating her wedding.
Here's what Matthew had to say about being an officiant via Fox News Digital.
"And it's a wonderful thing to be able to do, to sort of, to speak on behalf of a group of people. So when you say, ‘Dearly beloved, we are gathered here, in this event,’ so you're you're bringing people together to join two people in what hopefully could become a great bond, a union between two human beings. And it's a beautiful thing. "Matthew Modine
Before ending the interview, he talks about his lovely marriage to his wife of four decades, and how he hopes that Millie and Jake could find the same happiness.
"I've been married for four decades. And, not only is my wife my best friend, she's my greatest confidant and, teacher and, yeah, I mean, she's just about everything to me. And I think it's extraordinary. It's a miracle when we find someone, to be able to share our lives with. I don't stand in judgment of of marriages that don't work out. I mean, it's, they're complicated. And some people grow together and some people grow apart. For however long it lasts, it's a beautiful thing. I've had a great marriage, and so I wish that for Millie and Jake."Matthew Modine
We can't wait to see all the pictures from Millie and Jake's special day, and we really can't wait to see Millie in the upcoming Stranger Things season 5.
