Meet the contestants of Netflix's Japanese reality dating series The Boyfriend

The first three episodes of The Boyfriend were released on Netflix on July 9, and most people have already watched them by now. There are a total of 10 episodes in the first season, so you can expect seven more to be released in three more batches. This show has already gotten off to a great start, and we can't wait to see how the rest of the season plays out.

Considered Japan's first same-sex reality show, The Boyfriend follows nine men who spend the summer together living in a seaside pool house while also running a coffee truck and searching for love. In the first batch of episodes, we meet most of the cast members. If you want to know more about the lucky singles, keep reading because we shared some quick facts about each one below.

Dai Nakai

Dai is the first contestant we meet in the reality series. He's 22 years old and a university student. He experienced so much pain in his life that he thought he'd never fall in love again. But he continues to hold hope that he'll be able to eventually find a date or a great partner.

• Someone who's a little weird

Kim Taeheon

Next up is Taeheon, who is 34 years old and works as a designer. He was born in Korea but is currently living in Japan. He hasn't come out to his parents, but all his close friends know that he's gay. He sees joining The Boyfriend cast as a great opportunity to express himself openly and show his family who he really is.

What he's looking for in a partner:

• Although he works in the design field, he's drawn to people who have different interest and careers. He's looking for someone who can help him expand his perspective on what it means to be in a relationship.

Ryota

Ryota is the third cast member we're introduced to in the reality series. He's 28 years old, 5 feet 11 inches tall, and works as a model and barista at a cafe. He doesn't believe in having to choose one sex to be attracted to. He says that things are more nuanced than that for him. Whoever he falls in love with, he falls in love with. No matter their gender. He's not usually assertive when it comes to making a move on someone, so he hopes to grow and be brave enough on this show.

Gensei

Gensei is a 34-year-old hair and makeup artist from Taiwan. While he's looking forward to meeting people who he's compatible with on the show, he's even more excited to possibly end up with a boyfriend.

What he's looking for in a partner:

• Someone who has a sensitive side

Shun Nakanishi

Shun is a 23-year-old musician who works on creating original music. In addition, he's a part-time DJ. He hopes to end up with the person that he loves. Also, he wants to get married eventually and become a foster father.

• Someone he can grow with

Kazuto Kasahara

When Kazuto is introduced in the series, the other cast members instantly take a liking to him. He's a 27-year-old Japanese cuisine chef who works as a manager of an izakaya restaurant. He joined The Boyfriend looking for a life partner. Let's hope he finds the one!

Usak

Usak is a 36-year-old go-go dancer searching for love. In fact, he's one of the most popular go-go boys in Japan. He's really into bodybuilding, so being in shape and following an intense regimen is important to him.

Alan

Alan is 29 years old and from Brazil. He is part Brazilian, part Italian, and part Japanese. He also works for a foreign IT company. He considers himself a go-getter when it comes to relationships, meaning he's not scared to tell someone that he likes them romantically. When he came into the house, he already knew Dai and Usak.

Ikuo

Not much is known about Ikuo since he wasn't introduced in the first three episodes that have been released so far. But what we do know is that he's 22 years old and that he works in the food service industry. Once we learn more about this contestant, we'll make sure to come back and share what we found.
