Love is Blind season 6: What exactly happened between Kenneth & Brittany?
By Mads Lennon
Love Is Blind season 6 introduced us to several new couples and at least a few seemed like they were frontrunners, destined to make it all the way to the altar. Fans were surprised when Kenneth Gorham and Brittany Mill's engagement ended rather abruptly in the latest batch of episodes, leaving many viewers wondering, "what the heck just happened?"
In episode 8, the pair broke things off after realizing that their desire, or "crave," as they call it, was no longer there after leaving the sanctity of the pods. The shift in their relationship is noticeable on-camera. Even as early as the honeymoon, viewers realized something felt a little off between the two during an awkward stretch of silence on a boat ride.
Once they returned to their real lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, where Brittany senior client partner and Kenneth is a middle school principal, the reality of their situation struck them both and resulted in the break-up we saw on-screen.
Based on the show, it looked like Kenneth tapped out of their relationship as soon as they returned home as he was frequently shown on his cell phone and Brittany commented on the fact he had created "distance" between them since returning from the Dominican Republic for their resort trip.
The actual breakup scene was a mature and heartbreaking conversation in which Brittany realizes there is no passion between them. Even though they agreed not to consummate their relationship before marriage, she still wanted to feel the desire to do it and it seems like that disappeared post-pods.
No, Kenneth's cell phone usage didn't lead to their breakup
Brittany recently talked to Entertainment Weekly about the split and revealed that what viewers saw on camera is really what happened, there wasn't anything else that happened off-screen that led to that moment, no matter how abrupt it might have seemed. She also clarified that Kenneth being on his phone was not an issue for her, despite what some people on social media believe.
"No, no, no, the phone situation had nothing to do with me and Kenneth's relationship going in the opposite direction of a wedding. It had absolutely nothing to do with it. I noticed Kenneth being on his phone a few different times, and it comes down to the point of really putting into perspective about his career, and how that's so important to him, and also it then becomes important to me because I'm his partner, and was his partner throughout this experience. I never had a problem with it where it was a concern for me. It was more so of, he needs his moment, because Kenneth takes pride in being an introvert."
As an introvert, Kenneth often turns to his phone to wind down and reflect, something I think most of us can relate to. The editing reflects a different reality, but if Brittany says that wasn't the source of their problems then I believe her.
According to Brittany, things just started to fizzle out as early as their honeymoon. Despite this, she didn't want to be "super reactive right off the bat" because she wanted the marriage to work out, but once they returned to their real lives, she was able to "come to terms" with their shift in dynamic and they worked it out as maturely as possible.
Even though Brittany and Kenneth did not get married, she's very grateful for the experience she had on the show and glad they didn't drag it out to the altar as that would have created a "gut-wrenching experience" for her, had one of them said no when the time came.
"A wedding ceremony is such a special, special moment. We need to make sure that if you get to that point, make sure that you are 100 percent confident. So while, yes, we didn't make it to the wedding, it was still a beautiful experience, and I honestly would do it all over again," Brittany told the outlet.
