On Aug. 6, Netflix released the first four episodes of its new Korean competition reality series, The Influencer. The show follows 77 of Korea's most popular influencers as they battle it out in a social survival game to prove their worth and determine who has the biggest influence. The last one standing will not only claim the title of the ultimate influencer but also receive a hefty prize of 300 million won.
So, how are the contestants eliminated? Well, they'll be participating in various challenges where the losers are eliminated. There are a total of five rounds, with the first round only seeing 30 influencers moving forward to the next round. That means 47 of the 77 contestants are eliminated in round one. That's a huge cut!
We won't list all the names of those participating because there are just too many. However, some notable influencers participating in the social survival game are RISABAE, PaniBottle, Shim Euddeum, Sia_jiwoo, and KEJIMIN. But I think who viewers will be most shocked to see in the reality series is Korea's Prince of Asia, Jang Keun-suk.
No, he's not a host or a guest star. He's an actual contestant on the show. This is shocking, right? The other influencers couldn't believe it either in the first episode. After being introduced to 76 contestants, Jang Keun-suk walks out on stage with a cue card, leading viewers and the other contestants to believe that he's the host. But after introducing himself, he walks backstage for a minute before returning with a neckband around his neck. He then reveals to everyone that he's the 77th influencer and will also compete in the game.
Although he's a newbie influencer, having just recently started his YouTube channel, his celebrity status made him an instant threat to the other contestants, with some of them wanting him gone right away. We're not going to spoil his fate in the series, so you'll have to watch the episodes to find out. But as a fan of his, we hope to see him go far!
Jang Keun-suk is a well-known South Korean actor and singer. Some of his most notable acting roles were in the K-Dramas Beethoven Virus, You're Beautiful, Marry Me, Mary!, Love Rain, Bel Ami, The Royal Gambler and Switch. He also had a successful singing career in Japan. Due to a tax evasion scandal, in which he ended up being found not guilty of, Keun-seuk decided to take a brief hiatus in 2015. He would later make a successful comeback in 2016, becoming a host and mentor on the popular Korean music survival show Produce 101.
His most recent acting gig was playing the role of Goo Do-han in the action web series Decoy, which was released in 2023. Now, he's back on TV, participating in Netflix's new social survival show, The Influencer. Will he be the last influencer standing and win the 300 million won prize? Find out by watching The Influencer on Netflix.
