2. True Story

  • Release Date: Nov. 24, 2021
  • Directed by: Eric Newman
  • Cast: Kevin Hart, Wesley Snipes, Tawny Newsome, Paul Adelstein, Will Catlett, Chris Diamantopoulos, Billy Zane, Lauren London, Ash Santos, John Ales, Theo Rossi, and more

True Story is the only show on this list, and it’s much more serious than the other titles. It’s not a comedy, which is what we’ve come to expect from Hart throughout his career. True Story is a limited series that tells the story of Kid, played by Hart. Kid is a very famous comedian, one of the most famous in the world, but while on a stop in his hometown of Philadelphia, Kid reconnects with his older brother, Carlton, played by Wesley Snipes. When Kid wakes up with a dead woman in his hotel room after going out the night before, Carlton arranges for the body to be disposed of to keep Kid’s reputation intact.

Unfortunately, things go bad from there. Overall, this series is interesting! It’s not one of Netflix’s best, but it’s a solid story. Hart and Snipes have great chemistry in their roles, and there’s a lot of unsaid conflict between their characters.

If you like mysteries and dramas with lots of twists and turns, True Story is a good miniseries for you to check out on Netflix. There are only seven episodes, so you can binge through it pretty quickly.

Up next is Fatherhood, which is one of my favorite movies starring Hart.
