High Tides, also known as Knokke Off, is one of the most popular teen shows on Netflix right now. The Dutch Netflix original series premiered on VRT Max in May before its release on Netflix in July 2023 in the Netherlands. Since, it's been released on Netflix globally, and it's starting to pick up steam with Netflix subscribers around the world.

I started watching High Tides in December, and I thought it was going to be like a European beach town version of Outer Banks, but that's just not the case. This show is wild, dramatic, and problematic, and it's easy to see why it's gaining popularity and resonating with audiences everywhere. After fans finish the first season of the series, everyone wants to know what's next, if High Tides season 2 is happening, and more. Luckily, we have some great news to share with fans of High Tides.

Netflix renewed High Tides for season 2 on Dec. 12, 2023. The cast of the series, including Pommelien Thijs, Willem De Schryver, Eliyha Altena, and Anna Drijver, announced that High Tides would return for a second season in a new video posted to social media.

Is there a release date for High Tides season 2 yet?

Netflix has not announced the season 2 release date for High Tides yet. We're still months away from that being announced. Luckily, Thijs ends the renewal announcement video by saying that they'll be back on set in 2024. That's obviously good news! It means there won't be a super long break between seasons of the series.

It doesn't seem like High Tides season 2 would take a long time to film, so there's a chance we could see the series on Netflix sometime in 2024, likely around the end of the year.

Unfortunately, the production is at the mercy of the conditions and weather. This show is all about the beach and the vibes, and unless things change drastically in the new season, it's unlikley that production could start until April or May at the earliest.

For the first season, production started in June 2022 and lasted through the summer, according to VRT. We have to imagine a similar timeline with season 2.

It reminds me, in a lot of ways, of The Summer I Turned Pretty. High Tides is so much darker, but there are only a few months of the year when it looks like summer. This year with the Hollywood strikes, production on The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 was delayed until 2024 because they can't just start filming in North Carolina in November and call it "summer."

Assuming production on High Tides season 2 last throughout the summer of 2024, we probably won't see the next season until 2025, or late 2024 at the very earliest.

Release Prediction: Spring 2025

Season 1 ending, explained

At the end of High Tides season 1, it all goes down! It's truly an epic cliffhanger of a season finale.

Jacques dies at the beach club, and Daan finds him. For Patrick and Eleonore's anniversary, all of their friends and family "surprise" Patrick, but there's a real surprise in the works. Eleonore, who knows really what happened to Claudia, hatches a plan to pin Claudia's murder on Patrick, but it wasn't Patrick who killed her.

It's revealed, that in the fight between Patrick, Eleonore, and Claudia, Alex intervened and accidentally bumps into Claudia while she's on the balcony, and Claudia falls to her death. Alex has been dealing very poorly with the guilt of this. And, he sends the video of Patrick and Christina making love to everyone at the party, and it launches a massive fight. Patrick reveals his true character to his friends, but it all overwhelms Olivia who runs to Alex's room. She finds the gun that Alex stole from Daan and Melissa's campsite, and Olivia shoots Patrick. When the season ends, we don't know if he's alive or dead.

Louise, on the other hand, ditches the party with Daan before all that happens after Alex assaults her in his room. She cuts ties with him, and it looks like she's interested in rekindling things with Daan. The season ends with Louise cutting off ties with Daan, too, and running away. The season started with Louise running, and that's how the season ends, too.

That's basically where things stand heading into season 2. We don't know what's going to happen with Patrick and how that will all be handled. Alex is clearly traumatized from all of this, and he's hurting others as a result. Melissa and Daan know what happened with Claudia, but how will they deal with the death and how it all happened?

Then, we have Louise, who seems to be doing better, but will she fall back into old patterns in season 2? Hopefully, not! And, Emilie, Louise's sister, is breaking up with Charles, but it's not going over so well with her mom, Angelique.
