Game of Thrones creators Dan Weiss and David Benioff are back with their next ambitious big-budget series 3 Body Problem. They're taking a sharp pivot from fantasy into hard science fiction by adapting Liu Cixin's beloved Hugo Award-winning trilogy and they're joined by True Blood writer Alexander Woo. All eight episodes of the first season will be released on March 21, 2024. Not to be confused with the Chinese adaptation Three-Body.

Primarily adapting the first book in Cixin's series, The Three-Body Problem, the Netflix Original begins with the story of Ye Wenjie during the Chinese Cultural Revolution. Daughter of an acclaimed physics professor, Wenjie is a astrophysicist who is traumatized when she witnesses her father brutally murdered in front of a crowd because of his "reactionary" ideals.

Branded a traitor due to her family connection, Wenjie is given the chance to work off her debt to society by putting her physics background to use at a secretive military base instead of prison. There, she makes a decision with a serious impact of humanity's future as she causes Earth to face its greatest threat yet.

3 Body Problem premieres on March 21

As mentioned above, 3 Body Problem will drop in its entirety on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 12 a.m. PT/3 a.m. ET. There are eight episodes in total, most of them around one hour long, so it will take about eight hours to finish watching the first season. Season 1 adapts storylines from all three books, including The Dark Forest and Death's End.
