Griselda recaps: All 6 episodes explained
Griselda episode 5 recap: "Paradise Lost"
We skip forward three years after where we left off at the end of episode 4 to see that Griselda is thriving in Miami with her cocaine empire. Elsewhere, June and Raul bring their case to Washington DC in the hopes of gaining more resources. They've hit a dead end in Miami because Griselda has everything under her control, even some of the police are in her pocket.
We meet a new player, a man named John Roberts, who Rafa introduces to Griselda. She's unimpressed with him despite the fact he's supposedly a heavy-hitter who knows how to move product. Beyond that, Griselda just hates Rafa and his ideas in general because she maintains her grudge against him for killing Arturo all those years ago. Griselda's children have matured, including her newest son with Dario, Michael Corleone. At least one of them, Dixon, even regularly uses their product.
Despite going to DC for help, Griselda still manages to infiltrate CENTAC and plant a story about Raul that gets him taken off the case. She even leaks it to the press to ensure her bases are covered. The problem is, the cops are still getting intel somewhere and Griselda is disturbed by the idea they might have a rat among them. Rivi advises her to clean house, so she tells her men to do just that in the two weeks leading up to Dario's big birthday party. There's a bloody montage as Rivi and Griselda's enforcers systematically take out anyone they think could be a leak or informant.
However, June is also very clever and she devises a psychological ploy to get under Griselda's skin. After they tighten their ranks, she chooses a stash house in Ft. Lauderdale that no one should know about to raid. Griselda freaks out, wondering how the cops could possibly know about that location, unaware it came from old intel. When Rivi tells her this, during Dario's party, she's becomes extremely paranoid, on top of being very high on her own supply, not a great combination.
Griselda starts seeing potential leaks everywhere and begins snapping and turning on the people she trusts most, including Dario and Carmen. Speaking of Carmen, June tries to coerce her into turning on Griselda, telling her that the Ft. Lauderdale house had her name on the deed, which could implicate her, but Carmen turns her down.
Still, Rivi reassures Griselda later that he's confident they don't have an informant problem and that the cops were only using older intel, that they're safe. Griselda doesn't believe him and even goes so far as to accuse Dario of being an informant. Amplifying matters, Griselda walks into a room where Estella and Dario are chatting and she immediately accuses Dario of cheating on her. They get into a nasty fight that ends with Griselda picking up the golden gun she purchased him as a gift and shooting out his car.
Then she brings it into the party and humiliates the John Roberts guy by making him strip and bark like a dog before telling other guests to start having sex. Carmen arrives in time to keep things from getting even worse, taking Griselda into the house to calm her down. That's when she tells Griselda about the offer June made her, thinking Griselda will accept the warning and maybe leave the business for good, with Carmen offering to help her and her kids escape. But instead Griselda goes ballistic and tries to kill Carmen, only stopping when Dario pulls her off. Not long after that, she also kicks Dario out of the house.
Dixon leaves Dario's party and goes to a club with a girl. Another guy flirts with her and gets pushy, causing Dixon to snap and pull out a gun that he fires off multiple times. Like mother like son! He leaves and the cops chase him. Dixon leads them straight to Chucho's house, who he's used to going to in order to solve all of his problems. Dixon tries to convince Chucho to take the blame for the shooting.
At this point, Chucho has a wife and a young son and his wife says that he needs to leave the Blancos alone and get out of this situation. Chucho punches Dixon to get him to leave and Dixon tells his mother, leading Griselda to believe that Chucho is the informant. She tells Rivi to take care of it. Rivi shoots Chucho while he's driving, but he misses and kills Chucho's two-year-old son instead. Griselda is horrified by this mistake, especially when she sees that her children are watching a news report on the death and likely know she was responsible.
The episode ends with Carmen walking right into the CENTAC offices and telling June she's changed her mind and will take her deal.
