Netflix has landed a buzzy new horror movie during the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, which took place from January 18-28.
Variety reports Netflix spent $17 million to become the exclusive streaming home of sci-fi thriller It's What's Inside, starring Brittany O'Grady, James Morosini, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Gavin Leatherwood, and more.
It's What's Inside is set at a pre-wedding party that turns into an "existential nightmare" when an estranged friend shows up unannounced with a peculiar suitcase in tow, hoping to liven up the night with what's inside.
The movie marks the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Greg Jardin, who also wrote the script, and it's already earning rave reviews from festival attendees. Currently, It's What Inside sits at a perfect 100% approval score on Rotten Tomatoes based on feedback from nine reviews. That number could easily change between now and the eventual streaming release date, but it's still an impressive start.
Critics are calling It's What's Inside one of the most fun movies at this year's Sundance and a film that's best enjoyed by going in blind, meaning avoiding any trailers or plot details where possible.
"It’s What’s Inside registers as a pretty effective genre calling-card: gleamingly shot and spikily cut, brashly acted by actors accepting of their role as pretty pawns in an elaborate narrative game of strategy."Guy Lodge, Variety
It's What's Inside will also screen at South by Southwest in March 2024, so it likely won't arrive on Netflix until sometime after that. I wouldn't be surprised if Netflix saves it for its Halloween line-up.
It's What's Inside cast
As mentioned above, the upcoming horror movie boasts a talented cast of actors that includes The White Lotus and The Consultant actress Brittany O'Grady and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Gavin Leatherwood. Fear the Walking Dead alum Alycia Debnam-Carey also stars alongside Devon Terrell, Nina Bloomgarden, Reina Hardesty, David W. Thompson, and Madison Davenport.
Academy Award-nominated star of Netflix film Rustin, Colman Domingo, and his husband Raúl Domingo, produced the movie under their Edith Productions banner with Ulf EK's Robert Kapp.
Domingo shared a sweet post about the film on his Instagram, praising Jardin for his "phenomenal" debut. William Rosenfeld of Such Content and Kate Andrews from Boldly Go Productions served as producers on the project alongside filmmaker Jason Baum.
