Newly minted three-time Emmy Award winning actor and writer Richard Gadd's celebrations continue. The Baby Reindeer star and creator took home all three Emmys he was up for on Sunday, Sept. 15, and just two days later, he and Netflix locked down a deal to stay in business.

According to Deadline, Gadd signed on with Netflix for a multi-year first-look deal, which basically means the streamer will have the "first look" at new scripted content Gadd creates. In the coming years, we will surely be seeing much more of Gadd on our Netflix watch lists, whether starring in new shows and movies or behind the scenes as their creator and writer.

Baby Reindeer was released in April 2024 and became an overnight global sensation, ultimately taking up residence in Netflix's top 10 English-language shows ranking for about two months and racking up over 88 million views within its first three months. Even though the hit limited series courted controversy by the name of a $170 million lawsuit, it's an undeniable slam dunk.

Richard Gadd and Netflix team up for more success

The series was nominated for 11 Emmy Awards, winning six, including three for Gadd: Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, and Outstanding Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. Netflix surely hopes Gadd can conjure up another massively successful series that picks up some more hardware.

After word of Gadd's deal with Netflix broke, the Emmy-winner shared a statement with Tudum expressing his gratitude and excitement to continue working with the streamer:

"I’m beyond thrilled to be continuing my creative journey with Netflix. They took a chance on me when I wasn’t proven in the television space for that I will always be grateful. I look forward to the years ahead with Netflix ideas with Ted [Sarandos], Bela [Bajaria], Anne [Mensah], Peter [Friedlander], and all the amazing staff who work at the company."

Richard Gadd

Even though Gadd will continue to be in business with Netflix and create content for them in the future, he already has a series in the works with BBC and HBO. The drama series series Lions was in development prior to Baby Reindeer blowing up this year and picked up by HBO in June. Deadline noted that HBO was in the running for Gadd's first-look deal, but Netflix won in the end.

Currently, there's no word on what Gadd could have in the works at Netflix, though we're sure to hear about some new titles in development in the coming months and into next year. While the Baby Reindeer chapter appears to be closed with the Emmys having already been won, the defamation lawsuit trial will take place in May 2025. Buckle up for even more headlines regarding one of Netflix's most successful limited series of all time.
