Emily in Tokyo? Lily Collins' throwback photo has fans hopeful for Emily in Paris season 4

We're getting closer and closer to a brand new season of Emily in Paris, and diehard fans of the Netflix original romantic comedy series are starving for any and all details about the upcoming fourth season. First and foremost, when is the season going to be released?

Thankfully, filming got underway on the highly anticipated Emily in Paris season 4 in early 2024 following the resolution of the dual Hollywood strikes that delayed production. On April 18, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos confirmed that season 4 will be hitting our watch lists in the second half of the year. Translation: Season 4 will premiere by the end of the 2024!

While filming reaches its final stretch ahead of the summer Olympics in Paris, fans are searching social media for clues about what could be in store for season 4. A recent Instagram post from series star and producer Lily Collins has everyone wondering whether Emily Cooper could be on the move for another trip outside of Paris. Is she headed to Tokyo?

Lily Collins throwback pic has fans talking Tokyo for Emily

On April 10, Collins shared a new post on Instagram that features two photos of her seemingly standing on the top of a building on a balcony in Tokyo, Japan. She's posing alongside the Tokyo Tower, a red tower in the distance that looks a lot like the Eiffel Tower in Paris. In the caption, Collins wrote, "Throwback to finding a little bit of Paris in Japan. Emily in Tokyo?..."

Naturally, fans went wild wondering if this is actually a tease for Emily in Paris season 4. Collins didn't specify how much of a throwback the photos are or when they were exactly taken. But a quick perusal of her Instagram account indicates that she last went on a birthday trip to Tokyo with her husband Charlie McDowell in March 2023. Unfortunately, I don't think Emily's actually Japan-bound in season 4.

Ahead of production on season 4, Collins did announce a new location for her character. During Netflix's TUDUM fan event in June 2023 that part of the fourth season would be filmed in Italy. So far, snaps of Emily's Roman holiday have not yet been shared by the star, though we're sure to receive some updates. Can you imagine what styles Emily has planned for Italy?

Even though the Tokyo photos and Collins' reference to Emily in Paris seem like nothing more than just the actress having some fun, that doesn't mean fans don't want to see this tease become a reality. If it's not happening in season 4, a potential fifth season (or beyond) should definitely consider taking Emily to Tokyo. She would love taking in the culture and creating fashionable chaos in a new city.

If you didn't read the caption of Collins' photo, then you likely believe filming for season 4 was taking place in Tokyo. The comments are a mixture of confusion, excitement, and interest in Emily continuing her adventures outside of Paris.
