Ellen DeGeneres, the comedian and former host of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, is set to make a return to the spotlight with an upcoming Netflix stand-up comedy special. Following the conclusion of her talk show in 2022 after 19 seasons.

The Netflix special is part of DeGeneres' Ellen's Last Stand... Up Tour, which she launched in Los Angeles in April 2023, and will tackle the elephant in the room: her alleged exile from showbiz.

In a recent stand-up set at Largo in West Hollywood, DeGeneres teased her upcoming Netflix special, joking about her wild journey in the entertainment industry. "I used to say that I didn’t care what other people thought of me, and I realized... I said that at the height of my popularity," she quipped to a sold-out crowd.

"It is such a waste of time to worry about what other people think... Right now, I’m hoping you’re thinking, ‘This is marvelous, I’m so happy to be here.’ But you could be thinking, ‘Let’s see how this goes.'"

Acknowledging the controversies surrounding her, including allegations of a toxic work environment on her talk show, DeGeneres humorously reflected on her public perception. "The ‘be kind’ girl wasn’t kind," she admitted.

"I became this one-dimensional character who gave stuff away and danced up steps. Do you know how hard it is to dance up steps? Would a mean person dance up steps? Had I ended my show by saying, ‘Go f–k yourself,’ people would’ve been pleasantly surprised."

Despite the challenges she has faced, DeGeneres remains resilient and ready to embrace this new chapter in her career. The Netflix special, slated to be filmed later this year, marks her first major project since bidding farewell to The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Yes! Ellen DeGeneres does have a comedy special currently on Netflix. In December 2018, Ellen partnered up with Netflix for her stand-up comedy special, Ellen DeGeneres: Relatable. This was her first stand-up comedy special since her 2003 HBO special Ellen DeGeneres: Here and Now.

In the Netflix special, DeGeneres explored whether she remains "relatable" to audiences now that she is wealthy and famous, compared to when she was a struggling comedian earlier in her career.
